Have you ever encountered the fltmgr.sys stop code on your Windows 10 or 11 computer? If yes, then you may know the frustration of seeing your computer crash unexpectedly and leaving you unable to access your files and programs. The fltmgr.sys stop code is a blue screen of death (BSOD) error that is caused by issues with the file system filter manager (fltmgr.sys) on your computer.

What is the Fltmgr.sys?

The fltmgr.sys is a system file in Windows that is responsible for managing and filtering the input and output (I/O) operations on your computer’s file system. The file system filter manager sits between the file system and various file system drivers, and it oversees and processes file system-related operations.

While the fltmgr.sys is essential for the proper functioning of your computer, it can encounter issues that may cause the blue screen of death (BSOD) error.

What Causes the Fltmgr.sys Stop Code Error?

There are several possible causes of the fltmgr.sys stop code error. Some of the common causes include:

  1. Corrupt or outdated drivers – outdated or corrupt drivers on your computer can cause fltmgr.sys stop code errors.
  2. Malware or virus infections – malware attacks can damage system files like fltmgr.sys, causing BSOD errors.
  3. Faulty hardware – problems with your computer’s hardware, such as a damaged hard drive, can cause the fltmgr.sys stop code error.
  4. Corrupt system files – system files can become corrupt due to software conflicts or other issues.

How to Fix the Fltmgr.sys Stop Code Error?

To fix the fltmgr.sys stop code error, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Run a virus scan – malware infections can cause BSOD errors, so run a virus scan with reliable antivirus software.
  2. Update drivers – update all drivers for your system, including those for your hard drive and storage devices.
  3. Perform a system restore – restore your computer to a previous restore point, where the fltmgr.sys error was not occurring.
  4. Check your hardware – make sure that all the hardware components of your computer are properly connected and not damaged.
  5. Run a disk check – run a disk check to identify any errors or bad sectors on your hard drive.
  6. Reinstall Windows – if none of the above fixes work, reinstalling Windows can be a last resort to fix the fltmgr.sys stop code error.
