If you want to clean up your Windows PC and improve its performance, one of the easiest ways to do so is by using the Command Prompt. Command Prompt is a powerful tool that can help you optimize your computer’s performance by clearing up unnecessary files, disk space, and eliminating other unwanted elements that take up too much of your device’s memory.

In this article, we will guide you on how to clean your Windows PC using Command Prompt. Please keep in mind that this process involves deleting files, so we highly recommend that you back up your important data before proceeding.

Follow the steps below to get started:

Step 1. Launch Command Prompt

The first step is to launch the Command Prompt. To do this, simply press the “Windows Key + R” and type “cmd” on the Run dialog box, then press enter. Alternatively, you can search for “Command Prompt” in the search bar and open it from there.

Step 2. Run Disk Cleanup

After launching Command Prompt, the next step is to run Disk Cleanup. To do this, type “cleanmgr” on the Command Prompt and press enter. This will open up Disk Cleanup, which will scan your PC for all the unnecessary files. Afterward, follow the on-screen instructions to select the files you want to clean.

Step 3. Use Windows Defender

Windows Defender can also help you clean your PC by scanning for unwanted files and malware, which can slow down your system. To perform this task, type “ms-settings:windowsdefender” on the Command Prompt and press enter. This will open up Windows Defender, where you can easily perform a full scan.

Step 4. Uninstall Unnecessary Programs

Another step to clean up your PC is to uninstall unnecessary programs. To achieve this, type “appwiz.cpl” on the command prompt and press enter. This will open up the Programs and Features window, where you can easily uninstall any programs that you don’t need.

Step 5. Use CHKDSK

CHKDSK is a Windows system tool that checks your storage device for any potential errors. You can use this tool to identify and fix any data corruption issues that can affect your PC’s performance. To use CHKDSK, type “chkdsk/f/r” on the Command Prompt and press enter. This will prompt your PC to scan and repair any errors in your storage device.
