Having a DVD, BD, or CD drive that won’t open or eject can be frustrating, especially if you have important files or movies saved inside. However, before you panic and rush to buy a new drive, there are simple steps you can take to fix the issue at home. In this article, we will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to fix a DVD/BD/CD drive that won’t open or eject.

Step 1: Restart your Computer

The first step to fix the issue is to restart your computer. Sometimes, the Windows system might freeze or lock the DVD drive, causing it to stop working. Restarting the system can reset the DVD drive and fix the issue.

Step 2: Manually Eject the Disc

If restarting the system doesn’t help, then you can manually eject the disc from the drive. Most DVD drives have a small hole near the eject button. Insert a thin wire or paper clip into the hole and press it until the drive opens. This will help you remove the disc from the drive and fix the issue.

Step 3: Check the Power Supply

Make sure the DVD drive is receiving power from the power supply. If the power supply is faulty, the DVD drive won’t work correctly. Check the cables and connectors connecting the DVD drive to the power supply.

Step 4: Check the Driver

The driver of the DVD drive is essential for its proper functioning. If the driver is outdated or corrupted, the DVD drive won’t work properly. Go to the device manager and check the DVD drive’s driver’s status. If it’s outdated or corrupted, update or reinstall the driver.

Step 5: Remove the Disc Registry

Windows stores information about the disc drives and their settings in the registry. If there’s a registry issue with the DVD drive, it won’t work correctly. You can remove the registry by going to the registry editor and deleting the UpperFilters and LowerFilters keys from the drive’s registry settings.

Step 6: Clean the Drive

Dirt and dust can accumulate in the DVD drive’s lens, causing it to malfunction. Clean the DVD drive’s lens gently to remove dirt and dust. You can use a lens cleaner or a soft brush to clean the lens.

Step 7: Get Professional Help

If your DVD drive is still not working, you can seek professional help. Contact the manufacturer of the DVD drive or a computer technician to get help with the issue. They might be able to provide you with a solution or repair the DVD drive.

In conclusion, fixing a DVD/BD/CD drive that won’t open or eject can be easy if you follow the above steps. Restarting your computer, manually ejecting the disc, checking the power supply, updating or reinstalling the driver, removing the registry, and cleaning the lens are the most effective ways to fix the issue. If none of these works, it’s recommended to seek professional help
