Google Docs is a powerful tool that is widely used to create and edit work collaterals. With numerous capabilities such as real-time collaboration, commenting, and easy sharing, it has become one of the most popular and useful tools for remote work. One feature that might not be as well-known but is equally useful is the chat feature in Google Docs. The chat feature allows multiple users that are working on the same document to communicate in real-time, making it easier to collaborate and work together. In this article, we’ll discuss how to use the chat feature in Google Docs.

First, it’s important to note that you can only use the chat feature in a Google Docs document if it has been shared with others. To access the chat feature, you will need to open the document you want to collaborate on and share it via Google Drive. Click on the ‘Share’ button located on the top right-hand side of the document. Once you have shared the document, you can start using the chat feature.

To open the chat, click on the ‘Comments’ button located on the top right-hand side of the document. In the drop-down menu, you will see the option ‘Chat’. Click on it to open the chat feature. You will see a chat window appear on the right-hand side of the document.

To start a conversation, click on the ‘Start chat’ button, and type in your message. You can send a message to all collaborators or mention a specific person using the ‘@’ symbol, followed by their name or email address. Once you have typed in your message, hit ‘Enter’, and your message will be sent. You can also reply to messages by clicking on them and typing in your response.

One of the most useful aspects of the chat feature is its ability to edit and format your messages. You can change the font, color, add emojis, and even attach files. This allows you to convey emotions and express your thoughts better.

Another useful feature of the chat feature is the ability to pin important messages for later reference. Click on the three dots located next to the message you want to pin, and select ‘pin message’. The message will be pinned at the top of the chat so you can refer to it later.

In conclusion, the chat feature in Google Docs is an excellent way to collaborate with others in real-time. By knowing how to use it, you can improve your collaboration and communication, thereby increasing productivity. With its ability to edit messages, pin important messages, and even attach files, it’s a feature worth utilizing for efficient collaboration.
