iPad vs. iPad Air: What’s the Difference?

Apple’s iPad lineup continues to expand, offering users an abundance of choices when it comes to selecting the right tablet for their busy lives. The company’s most popular models are the iPad and iPad Air, both of which boast impressive features and performance capabilities. But what sets these two devices apart, and which one is the right choice for you? Let’s take a closer look at the iPad vs. iPad Air to help you decide.

Design and Display:

Both devices share a similar square aluminum design, but the iPad Air is notably slimmer and lighter. The iPad Air is about 20% thinner than the standard iPad and weighs less, making it more comfortable to hold and easier to carry. However, when it comes to screen size, the standard iPad has a larger display – 10.2 inches compared to the iPad Air’s 10.5-inch display. Nevertheless, both devices offer crystal-clear Retina displays with True Tone technology that adjusts the screen’s color temperature to match the ambient lighting conditions.

Performance:

The iPad Air is powered by Apple’s A14 Bionic chip, which delivers advanced performance and enhanced machine learning capabilities. It boasts faster speeds than the standard iPad’s A12 Bionic chip, which is why the iPad Air is the better option for users who need a more powerful device. In addition, the iPad Air features an improved graphics engine that offers exceptional HDR and AR experiences. While both devices offer enough processing power for everyday tasks like browsing the web, streaming video or playing games, the iPad Air is definitely the superior choice for software that requires advanced processing capabilities.

Camera:

Both the iPad and iPad Air feature an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 7-megapixel front camera. However, the iPad Air has a few extra features that the standard iPad lacks. For instance, the iPad Air includes a rear-facing flash, allowing you to take clearer photos in low-light conditions. The iPad Air also boasts better video recording capabilities, recording 1080p videos at 60 frames per second compared to the standard iPad’s 720p at 30 fps.

Price:

Price is always an important factor in determining which device is the right choice for you. The standard iPad starts at $329 for the 32GB model, while the iPad Air starts at $599 for the 64GB model. The iPad Air’s price is nearly double that of the standard iPad, making it the more expensive option. However, the extra cost can be worth it if you need the additional performance capabilities or advanced camera features.

Conclusion:

Choosing between the iPad and iPad Air largely depends on what you plan to use the device for. For basic daily use, such as web browsing, social media, and streaming media, the standard iPad is an excellent option. However, if you require a more powerful device for advanced tasks like running intensive software or professional video editing, the iPad Air is the better choice. Consider your needs, your budget, and your preferences, and you’ll be able to make the right decision for your tech needs.
