No One Knew 3D Touch Existed, and Now It’s Dead

For years, 3D Touch was a relatively unknown feature among iPhone users. Introduced in 2015 with the iPhone 6s, 3D Touch allowed users to access additional menu options and functions by pressing down harder on the screen. But despite its potential, 3D Touch never caught on with the masses. And now, with the release of iOS 13, 3D Touch has officially been declared dead.

So why did 3D Touch fail to make an impact? There are several reasons. First, it was a feature that required some level of experimentation and discovery. Most users simply didn’t know it existed or how to use it. Second, it was a fundamentally flawed concept. While some users loved the added functionality, others found the feature fiddly and inconsistent. Finally, Apple itself seemed to lose interest in 3D Touch. The feature was not included on the iPhone XR, and its successor, the iPhone 11, continued to phase it out.

The demise of 3D Touch is the latest example of Apple’s tendency to experiment with features and concepts that don’t always resonate with the public. Apple has a long history of introducing features that seem ahead of their time or revolutionary but ultimately fall by the wayside. Remember the Newton or the iPod Shuffle? These were both innovative devices that ultimately failed to catch on.

But Apple’s willingness to take risks is also what makes it a leader in the tech industry. Without experimentation, innovation would stagnate. And while 3D Touch may be dead, Apple will continue to push the envelope and introduce new ideas and concepts. Who knows, perhaps one of these new features will be the next big thing.

So what does the future hold for iPhone users now that 3D Touch is gone? Apple has introduced a new feature called Haptic Touch, which offers similar functionality but without the need for pressure sensitivity. Haptic Touch uses a long press and offers users context-specific menus and functions. It isn’t a perfect replacement for 3D Touch, but it’s a step in the right direction. In conclusion, no one may have known that 3D Touch existed, but its demise has been a long time coming. While it may have been ahead of its time, it ultimately fell short of expectations. But Apple’s willingness to experiment with new ideas and concepts means that the future is still bright for iPhone users. Who knows what innovative feature will be introduced next? Only time will tell.
