3 Simple Ways to Change a Mac Address on an Android

If you’re an Android user and need to change your device’s MAC (Media Access Control) address, there are several methods to assist you in completing this task. Here are three simple ways to change the MAC address on your Android.

1. Using a Rooted Device with Terminal Emulator:

To use this method, you must have a rooted Android device. The Terminal Emulator app can modify your Android’s MAC address when given the necessary permissions. Here’s how:

a. Download and install the Terminal Emulator app from the Google Play Store.

b. Open the app and type “su” (without quotes) to grant superuser access.

c. Enter the following command: “busybox ifconfig wlan0 hw ether XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX”. Replace “XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX” with your desired MAC address.

d. Finally, press Enter and restart your device to apply the changes.

2. Using a Rooted Device with ChameleMAC:

ChameleMAC is an app specially designed for changing MAC addresses on rooted Android devices. Follow these steps:

a. Download and install ChameleMAC from its official website or a reliable source.

b. Open the app and grant it root access when prompted.

c. Enter your desired MAC address in the appropriate field and tap “Change.”

d. Restart your device for the changes to take effect.

3. Changing MAC Address without Root Access:

Although more limited, it is possible to change your Android’s MAC address without having root access using a built-in feature called IP Neighbouring:

a. Enable Developer Options on your device by going to “Settings” > “About phone” > “Build number.” Tap on the build number several times until you see a message that says, “You are now a developer.”

b. Return to the main Settings menu, and you’ll see a new option called “Developer Options.” Open it and enable “Mobile data always active.” This ensures that your device can switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data seamlessly.

c. Download an app like “WiFi MAC Changer” from the Google Play Store and open it. Grant all the necessary permissions.

d. Select your preferred MAC address for each saved Wi-Fi network using the app’s interface.

e. Restart your device, and the new MAC address should now be in effect.

Remember that changing your device’s MAC address may go against your manufacturer’s terms of service, so proceed with caution. These methods should be used for legitimate purposes, such as privacy protection or troubleshooting connectivity issues. Always make a note of your original MAC address in case you run into any issues or want to revert to the default settings.
