12 Simple Ways to Deal with Dating a Bad Texter

In the age of instant communication and online connections, texting is an essential means to stay in touch with the people around you. When you’re dating someone, it’s natural to expect frequent and engaging text conversations. But what if the person you’re dating is bad at texting? It can be a frustrating and confusing experience, but it doesn’t have to be a deal-breaker. Here are 12 simple ways to deal with dating a bad texter.

1. Set realistic expectations: Understand that not everyone is good at expressing themselves through texts. Some people are better at communicating in person or over the phone. Accept your partner for who they are and adjust your expectations accordingly.

2. Communicate openly: If you feel like your partner’s texting habits are affecting your relationship, talk to them honestly about it. They may not be aware of their poor texting skills or have a valid reason behind it.

3. Have patience: Remember that not everyone can reply instantly or type long paragraphs explaining their feelings. Give your partner time to respond and don’t take longer response times personally.

4. Don’t over-analyze: Resist the urge to read too much into their short replies or delayed responses. Focus on the content of their messages rather than trying to decipher hidden meanings.

5. Offer alternatives: Suggest alternative forms of communication like phone calls or video chats if texting isn’t working out for both of you.

6. Create a texting schedule: If your partner’s unpredictable texting patterns bother you, suggest setting aside dedicated “texting time” when both of you are free to engage in conversation without distractions.

7. Use emojis and gifs: Using visuals can make any conversation more engaging, even when your partner is a bad texter. Encourage them to use emojis, gifs, or stickers to express their emotions and add some personality to their messages.

8. Play texting games: Engage your partner in simple texting games like “20 Questions” or “Would You Rather.” These can help foster conversation and make texting more fun and interactive.

9. Be understanding: Keep in mind that everyone gets busy from time to time. Your partner might not always be able to reply right away or engage in long text conversations. Show empathy and understanding when they explain their reasons for bad texting.

10. Focus on the positives: Remember that your partner’s poor texting skills don’t define the entirety of your relationship. Focus on the positive aspects and the strong connections you share in other areas.

11. Evaluate its importance: Ask yourself how important texting is to your relationship and if it’s worth jeopardizing what you have over something that might not be very relevant in the grand scheme of things.

12. Don’t rely solely on texts: In any relationship, it’s crucial not to depend entirely on one form of communication. Prioritize spending quality time together in person, making memories that are more valuable than any text conversation.

Dating a bad texter doesn’t have to ruin your relationship. By understanding your partner’s limitations, finding alternative ways to communicate, and focusing on the qualities that make your connection special, you can overcome this hurdle and build a stronger bond with your partner.
