Windows 11 has brought a refreshing design and a bunch of new features to the PC environment. However, with new updates come a few hiccups here and there, one such being the “We Can’t Find Your Camera” error that has frustrated many users attempting to use their webcams. If you’re encountering this issue, don’t fret; here are the best 9 fixes that can help you get back to your video calls and streaming in no time.

1. Check Camera Privacy Settings

Windows 11 has strict privacy settings that can prevent apps from accessing your camera. Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera and ensure that camera access is enabled for your device and for the apps you want to use.

2. Update or Reinstall Camera Drivers

Outdated or corrupt camera drivers can cause issues. Open Device Manager, locate your camera under ‘Cameras’ or ‘Imaging devices’, right-click on it, and choose ‘Update driver’. If an update doesn’t help, try ‘Uninstall device’ and then restart your PC to reinstall the driver.

3. Check the Camera Connection

If you’re using an external camera, make sure it’s properly connected to your PC. Try using a different port or a different USB cable to rule out connection issues.

4. Scan for Hardware Changes

In Device Manager, under the ‘Action’ menu, select ‘Scan for hardware changes’. This can sometimes detect a connected camera that wasn’t recognized before.

5. Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

Navigate to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, and run the ‘Hardware and Devices’ troubleshooter which can automatically detect and fix some problems with connected devices including cameras.

6. Restart the Camera App

Simply close the camera app and any other application that might be using it, then relaunch the camera app. Sometimes a quick restart can fix temporary glitches.

7. Check for Windows Updates

Microsoft continuously releases updates that can fix known issues. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates to download any available updates that could resolve camera problems.

8. Modify Registry Settings (Advanced Users)

Incorrect registry settings might prevent your camera from working properly (Warning: only attempt this if you are comfortable editing the registry). Use Regedit to navigate to ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\WOW6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows Media Foundation\\Platform’, create a new DWORD value named ‘EnableFrameServerMode’ and set it to ‘0’.

9. Contact Manufacturer Support

If all else fails, there may be a hardware issue with your camera or compatibility problems with Windows 11. Reach out to your device’s manufacturer for further support or consider getting professional technical assistance.
