Introduction:

Windows 7 cache is a storage mechanism designed to improve system performance by temporarily storing frequently accessed data and applications. However, cache can accumulate over time, taking up valuable disk space, and potentially causing your PC to slow down or experience other issues. Clearing the cache periodically can improve your computer’s performance and free up disk space. In this article, we’ll discuss four ways to clear the Windows 7 cache.

1. Clearing the Temp folder

One of the simplest ways to clear cache in Windows 7 is by deleting temporary files stored in the Temp folder. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Click the Start button and type ‘%temp%’ in the search box without the quotations.

b. Press Enter, and a new window will open showing all temporary files.

c. Select all files by pressing Ctrl+A, then press Shift+Delete to permanently delete them.

d. Confirm the prompt asking if you want to permanently delete these items.

2. Clearing Internet Explorer cache

If you use Internet Explorer as your browser on Windows 7, you should also clear its cache regularly. Here’s how:

a. Open Internet Explorer.

b. Click on the gear icon in the top-right corner and choose ‘Internet Options.’

c. In the ‘General’ tab under ‘Browsing history,’ click on ‘Delete.’

d. Check the boxes for ‘Temporary Internet files and website files’ and ‘Cookies and website data.’

e. Click on ‘Delete’ to clear Internet Explorer’s cache.

3. Clearing DNS Cache

Clearing your DNS cache can resolve connectivity issues and improve internet browsing speed. Follow these steps to clear your DNS cache in Windows 7:

a. Click on Start and type ‘cmd’ in the search box.

b. Right-click on ‘Command Prompt’ and choose ‘Run as Administrator.’

c. In the Command Prompt window, type ‘ipconfig /flushdns’ and press Enter.

d. You should see a message saying ‘Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.’

4. Using Disk Cleanup

Disk Cleanup is a built-in Windows utility that can help you clear cache, temporary files, and other unnecessary data. To use Disk Cleanup in Windows 7:

a. Click on Start, type ‘Disk Cleanup’ in the search box and press Enter.

b. Select the drive you want to clean up (usually C:) and click on ‘OK.’

c. Disk Cleanup will calculate how much disk space can be freed up.

d. Once the calculation is complete, check the boxes for ‘Temporary files,’ ‘Thumbnails,’ and any other items you wish to delete.

e. Click on ‘OK,’ then click on ‘Delete Files’ to confirm.

Conclusion:

Regularly clearing your Windows 7 cache can help maintain optimal performance and free up valuable disk space on your PC. The methods outlined above are simple and effective ways to keep your computer running smoothly. Ensure that you perform these tasks regularly to optimize your Windows 7 system performance.
