Introduction:

Halva is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert that is loved by many for its unique texture and delicious taste. This delectable sweet treat is popular in countries like Iran, Turkey, India, and Greece. It can be made with various ingredients and methods depending on the region, but a common base for halva recipes often includes sesame seed paste, or tahini. In this article, we’ll share with you the best halva recipe that’s simple to make and sure to impress.

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of tahini (sesame seed paste)

– 1 1/2 cup of sugar

– 1/2 cup of water

– 1/4 cup of honey

– 1 tsp of lemon juice

– 1 tsp of vanilla extract

– 1/2 cup of unsalted butter

– Optional: nuts, seeds or dried fruits for topping or mixing

Instructions:

1. Prepare your pan: Lightly grease an 8-inch square pan with unsalted butter, and line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal later.

2. Make the sugar syrup: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water. Stir continuously until the sugar has dissolved completely. Increase the heat to high and let it boil without stirring until it reaches 240°F (116°C) on a candy thermometer – this should result in a thick syrup.

3. Add honey and lemon juice: Once you have your sugar syrup prepared, remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in honey and lemon juice; this will make the syrup less likely to crystallize when cooled down.

4. Prepare tahini mixture: Place tahini in a separate large bowl. Gradually add the butter, stirring constantly until well combined. Then stir in vanilla extract.

5. Combine syrup and tahini mixture: Slowly pour the hot sugar syrup into the tahini mixture while mixing. It’s important to keep stirring so that the two blend evenly. The texture of the halva will begin to thicken as you mix.

6. Transfer the halva to pan: Spread the mixture evenly into your prepared pan, smoothing out the top with a spatula. If desired, add any nuts, seeds or dried fruits as a topping.

7. Set and refrigerate: Allow the halva to cool down to room temperature before placing it in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.

8. Slice and serve: Use the parchment paper overhang to lift your halva from the pan and place it on a cutting board. Slice it into squares and serve chilled.

Conclusion:

There you have it – a delicious homemade halva recipe that’s both easy and rewarding! Halva is perfect for special occasions or just indulging in a sweet treat when you crave one. With this recipe in hand, you can now create this delightful Middle Eastern dessert and share its unique taste with friends and family. Enjoy!
