Homecoming mums are a traditional and meaningful way to celebrate the occasion. These oversized corsages are a staple at high school football games and homecoming dances across the country. With a little creativity and time, you can make your very own homecoming mum that’s both unique and eye-catching. In this article, we’ll walk you through the process of making a homecoming mum from start to finish.

Materials You Will Need:

– Large silk mum flower

– Backing (cardboard or plastic)

– Ribbon in various colors, widths, and textures

– Trinkets and charms

– Letter stickers or glitter glue for personalization

– Craft glue or hot glue gun

– Scissors

– Spray paint (optional)

Step 1: Choose Your Flower and Backing

The focal point of any homecoming mum is the large silk flower. Choose a color that matches your school colors or favorite team. Attach the flower securely to your chosen backing material (cardboard or plastic) using craft glue.

Step 2: Add Ribbon Tails

Choose several lengths and styles of ribbon, cut them to various lengths, and attach them to the back of your flower. Attach these at various angles for added visual interest.

Step 3: Personalize Your Mum

Add charms, trinkets, or other decorations that represent your interests or school spirit. These might include sports equipment, mascots, musical instruments, or anything else that is personally meaningful to you.

Step 4: Include Your Name & School

Using letter stickers or glitter glue, add your name, school name, or even an inspirational message to your homecoming mum.

Step 5: Assemble Your Mum

Once everything is dry, flip the flower over to reveal your beautiful creation. Neatly arrange all ribbons and decorations into a cascading arrangement.

Step 6: Add Finishing Touches

If you want to go the extra mile, spray paint the backing material in your school color, and add a pin or clip to the back so you can easily wear your homecoming mum.

Congratulations! You’ve now created a unique and stylish homecoming mum that’s perfect for celebrating your school spirit. As you show off your creation at the big game or homecoming dance, take pride in knowing that you’ve crafted something truly special. With these simple steps, you’re sure to make a lasting impression at any homecoming event.
