Introduction:

Cornrows are a popular and versatile hairstyle, but maintaining them can be a little tricky. The key to keeping your cornrows looking fresh and healthy is to clean them properly. In this article, we will guide you through 14 steps on how to effectively clean your cornrows at home.

Step 1: Gather necessary materials

Gather the required materials such as gentle shampoo, conditioner, water spray bottle, towel, wide-tooth comb, and leave-in moisturizer.

Step 2: Dampen your hair

Using a water spray bottle, lightly dampen your hair. Ensure that the water reaches your scalp between the cornrows.

Step 3: Apply shampoo

Put a dime-sized amount of gentle shampoo on your fingertips and gently massage it onto your scalp. Make sure to cover the entire head while being gentle not to cause any frizz.

Step 4: Lather carefully

Carefully work the shampoo into a lather by using your fingertips. Avoid roughly rubbing or pulling on the cornrows.

Step 5: Rinse thoroughly

Rinse out the shampoo completely with water. Ensure that no residue remains in between the cornrows, as this can cause itchiness or build-up.

Step 6: Apply conditioner

After rinsing out the shampoo, apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair, focusing primarily on the ends. This can help keep the hair moisturized and prevent breakage.

Step 7: Detangle carefully

Using a wide-tooth comb, gently detangle any strands that may be tangled due to washing. Be cautious not to undo any of the cornrows during this process.

Step 8: Rinse out conditioner

Thoroughly rinse out the conditioner from your hair and scalp to prevent any buildup or greasiness.

Step 9: Gently squeeze excess water

Gently squeeze out the excess water from your hair with your hands, avoiding any pulling or tugging.

Step 10: Pat dry

Use a soft towel to pat your hair and scalp dry, being careful not to rub or pull on the cornrows.

Step 11: Apply leave-in moisturizer

Apply a leave-in moisturizer to your hair, focusing on the ends and along the cornrows. This will help keep your hair hydrated and healthy.

Step 12: Dry naturally

Allow your hair to air-dry naturally instead of using a blow dryer. Blow drying can cause frizz, damage, and may loosen the braids over time.

Step 13: Protect while sleeping

Wrap your head in a silk or satin scarf before bedtime to protect your cornrows and reduce friction between your hair and pillowcase.

Step 14: Regular maintenance

Repeat these steps every week or two, depending on how dirty or oily your hair becomes. Regular maintenance will keep your cornrows looking fresh and last longer.

Conclusion:

Following these 14 steps regularly will help you maintain clean, healthy, and beautiful cornrows. Be gentle with your hair during washing and always apply moisturizers after cleaning. With a bit of care and attention, you can rock those fabulous cornrows for weeks!
