If you are running out of space on your Mac’s hard drive, you may need to resize your volume to create more space. Fortunately, macOS includes a built-in tool called Disk Utility that allows you to resize your volume without losing any data.

Step 1: Back Up Your Data

Before you start resizing your volume, it is important to back up your data. While the resizing process should not cause data loss, it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Step 2: Open Disk Utility

Disk Utility can be found in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder, or you can simply search for it using Spotlight.

Step 3: Select the Volume You Want to Resize

In the left-hand pane of Disk Utility, select the volume you want to resize.

Step 4: Click on the “Partition” Tab

Click on the “Partition” tab at the top of the window.

Step 5: Resize the Volume

To resize the volume, click and drag the divider between the two partitions. You can also adjust the size by entering values in the Size field.

Step 6: Apply the Changes

Once you have adjusted the size of the volume, click the “Apply” button to save the changes. Disk Utility will then resize your volume without losing any data.

Conclusion

With Disk Utility, resizing a Mac volume is a simple and straightforward process. Just remember to back up your data before making any changes, and you will be able to create more space on your hard drive in no time
