When it comes to editing images, Photoshop is one of the most popular software options available for both amateur and professional photographers. One of the most powerful features of Photoshop is the ability to change the color of an image in multiple ways. In this article, we will explore 3 different methods to change the color of an image in Photoshop.

Method 1: Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer

The first method we will explore is using a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer. This method is ideal if you want to change the overall color tone of an image.

Step 1: Open the image in Photoshop and go to the Layers Panel. Click on the Adjustment Layer icon and select Hue/Saturation.

Step 2: In the Hue/Saturation panel, you can drag the slider for Hue to change the overall color tone. You can also adjust the Saturation and Lightness sliders to fine-tune the color changes.

Step 3: If you want to change the color of a specific part of the image only, you can use the Brush Tool and paint on the layer mask of the Hue/Saturation Layer to reveal the original color.

Method 2: Color Balance Adjustment Layer

The second method we will explore is using a Color Balance Adjustment Layer. This method is ideal if you want to adjust the color balance of the image’s shadows, midtones, and highlights.

Step 1: Open the image in Photoshop and go to the Layers Panel. Click on the Adjustment Layer icon and select Color Balance.

Step 2: In the Color Balance panel, you will see three sliders – Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights. Drag the slider towards the color you want to add or remove. For example, if you want to add more blues to the shadows, drag the Shadows slider towards the blue end.

Step 3: If you want to change the color of a specific part of the image only, you can use the Brush Tool and paint on the layer mask of the Color Balance Layer to reveal the original color.

Method 3: Replace Color Adjustment Layer

The third method we will explore is using a Replace Color Adjustment Layer. This method is ideal if you want to replace a specific color in an image with a different color.

Step 1: Open the image in Photoshop and go to the Layers Panel. Click on the Adjustment Layer icon and select Replace Color.

Step 2: In the Replace Color panel, you will see three eyedroppers – Sample, Add to Sample, and Subtract from Sample. Use the Sample eyedropper to select the color you want to replace.

Step 3: Adjust the Fuzziness slider to control how much of the selected color is replaced.

Step 4: Use the Hue, Saturation, and Lightness sliders to select the new color you want to replace the old color.
