Despite the convenience offered by the password autofill feature on Android devices, users can sometimes experience issues with its functionality. Here are nine effective ways to troubleshoot and fix the problem of password autofill not working on Android:

1. Check Autofill Settings: Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘System’ > ‘Languages & input’ > ‘Advanced’ > ‘Autofill service’. Ensure your preferred autofill service (like Google) is selected.

2. Update Your Apps: The autofill feature relies on app compatibility. Make sure your browser, password manager, and other relevant apps are updated to the latest version in the Google Play Store.

3. Clear Cache and Data: Clearing the cache and data for your browser or password manager app can resolve conflicts that may be preventing autofill from working properly. Navigate to ‘Settings’ > ‘Apps & notifications’ > ‘See all apps’, then select the affected app to clear its cache and data.

4. Restart Your Device: Sometimes, a simple restart can solve minor glitches that affect system processes like autofill.

5. Check Accessibility Service: If you’re using a third-party password manager, ensure that its accessibility service is turned on. Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Accessibility’, then find and activate the accessibility service for your specific password manager.

6. Disable Battery Optimization for Autofill Service: Battery optimization can sometimes hinder background services. Disable it for your autofill service by going to ‘Settings’ > ‘Apps & notifications’ > ‘Advanced’ > ‘Special app access’ > ‘Battery optimization’.

7. Ensure Screen Lock Is Enabled: Autofill services often require a secure screen lock to function correctly for security purposes. Set up a screen lock method such as PIN, pattern, or fingerprint.

8. Remove and Add Google Account Again: This will reset the Google services linked to autofill on your device. Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Accounts’, select your Google account, remove it, and add it back again.

9. Factory Reset (Last Resort): If all else fails and you suspect a deeper software issue, consider backing up your data and performing a factory reset on your Android device through the settings menu.

By following these steps in order, you should be able to restore proper functionality to the password autofill feature on your Android device and enjoy seamless access to your online accounts once again.
