The picturesque state of New Hampshire, with its majestic mountains, serene lakes, and lush forests, offers a slice of New England charm that’s hard to resist. As we look ahead to 2024, there are several towns in the Granite State that beckon travelers with their unique allure. Here are the 6 best towns in New Hampshire you should consider adding to your travel list:

1.Portsmouth – Situated at the confluence of the Piscataqua River and the Atlantic Ocean, Portsmouth is known for its historic homes and rich maritime heritage. The walkable downtown features brick-lined streets, independent shops, and an array of dining options. Don’t miss the Strawberry Banke Museum or a stroll through Prescott Park during your visit.

2.Hanover – Home to Dartmouth College, Hanover exudes New England college town charm mixed with intellectual vigor. Explore the Dartmouth Green, visit the Hood Museum of Art, or catch a performance at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. The town is also a gateway to outdoor activities along the Appalachian Trail.

3.Concord – As the state capital, Concord offers visitors a mix of cultural and historical sites. The gold-domed State House is a must-see on Main Street, which has seen a revival with new shops and restaurants flourishing. For history buffs, the nearby Canterbury Shaker Village provides a fascinating day trip.

4.Littleton – This small town in New Hampshire’s White Mountains region boasts stunning panoramic views and a quaint main street filled with local businesses and historic buildings. Be sure to check out Chutters – home to the world’s longest candy counter – for a sweet treat after a day exploring nearby trails.

5.Meredith – Nestled on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, Meredith charms visitors with its water-based recreation opportunities and scenic beauty. Hop on a scenic cruise around the lake or explore Meredith’s mills and antique shops for some local flavor.

6.Peterborough – Often cited as the inspiration for Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town,” Peterborough seamlessly blends arts, culture, and nature. Discover local art at galleries or enjoy performances at the Peterborough Players theater. Surrounded by lofty peaks and trails like Mount Monadnock provides endless outdoor activities.

Each of these towns encapsulates what makes New Hampshire such an attractive destination for travelers looking for both relaxation and adventure in 2024. Whether you’re looking for historic sites, literary connections, idyllic scenery, or outdoorsy fun – these towns offer something special that keeps visitors returning year after year.
