In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, players embark on an epic adventure across the Great Sea, encountering an array of memorable bosses that test their wits and combat skills. Here’s a ranking of the six best bosses from this timeless classic.

6. Gohdan, The Great Arbiter – Tower of the Gods

Gohdan awaits at the top of the Tower of the Gods, serving as a final test for Link to prove his worthiness. With its floating hands and head, this sentient construct not only offers a unique visual design but also demands strategic thinking to defeat it. Targeting its hands and eyes before delivering the coup de grâce with a well-placed arrow into its mouth makes for a satisfying puzzle-like battle.

5. Helmaroc King – Forsaken Fortress

The rematch with the Helmaroc King is a climactic showdown atop Forsaken Fortress where Link gets to avenge his prior defeat. The battle’s intense atmosphere is enhanced by rain and thunderstorms as players dodge the enormous bird’s swooping attacks, waiting for an opportunity to smash its armored mask with the Skull Hammer.

4. Jalhalla, Protector of the Seal – Earth Temple

Jalhalla, a massive ghostly figure wielding a lantern, stands out due to its creative mechanics involving light and shadows. Players must use the Mirror Shield to expose Jalhalla to beams of light, making it corporeal and vulnerable to attack while also fending off minor ghosts. This boss is as much about crowd control as it is about timing and positioning.

3. Molgera, Protector of the Seal – Wind Temple

Set in a vast sand pit, Molgera emerges with an unforgettable musical theme that elevates the tension. Players must hook onto Molgera’s tongue with the Hookshot then strike at its vulnerable parts while avoiding being swallowed or hit by flying sand.

2. Kalle Demos – Forbidden Woods

Kalle Demos is not only visually striking but also signals an early peak in Link’s journey with its plant-like appearance that blends perfectly within the Forbidden Woods. The fight requires strategic use of the newly acquired Boomerang to sever the creature’s many tendrils before attacking its central body.

1. Puppet Ganon – Ganon’s Tower

Puppet Ganon is an epic three-phase boss battle that challenges players on multiple fronts. Each form—a puppet snake, spider, and mold-formed traditional Ganon—requires quick reflexes and precise aim with arrows or the Light Arrows. As both a narrative and gameplay climax before facing Ganondorf himself, Puppet Ganon stands as one of the most memorable boss fights in not just The Wind Waker, but in all of Zelda lore.

In The Wind Waker, these bosses not only offer diverse battles that shake up gameplay but also contribute significantly to Link’s story arc, propelling him towards his ultimate confrontation with Ganondorf and solidifying their place in gaming history as iconic adversaries.
