50 “Needs Improvement” Report Card Comments

The following assertions will help you tailor your comments to specific kids and highlight their areas for Improvement.

Needs Improvement- all topics

  1.  are hard workers but have difficulty staying on task.
  2.  Has a tough time staying on task and completing their work.
  3.  He needs to be more respectful and courteous to their classmates.
  4.  He needs to listen to directions fully so that they can learn to work more independently.
  5.  She is not demonstrating responsibility and needs to be consistently reminded of how to perform daily classroom tasks.
  6.  He works well alone but needs to learn to work better cooperatively with peers.
  7.  He does not have a positive attitude about school and the work that needs to be completed.
  8.  Struggles with completing their work promptly.
  9.  He gives up quickly when something is complex and needs extensive encouragement to attempt the task.
  10.  He gets along with their classmates well but is disruptive during complete group training.
  11.  Has a hard time using the materials in the classroom respectfully and appropriately.
  12.  She has a difficult time concentrating and gets distracted easily.
  13.  Is having a difficult time with math.  Going over _____ at home would help considerably.
  14.  He is having a tough time understanding math concepts for their grade level.  They would benefit from extra assistance.
  15.  I could benefit from spending time reading with an adult every day.
  16.  Is enthusiastic but is not understanding ____.  Additional work on these topics would be
  17.  He has difficulty concentrating during math lessons and is not learning the material taught because of that.
  18.  He understands math concepts when using manipulatives but is having a difficult time learning to ____ without them.
  19.  Is a very enthusiastic reader.  They need to continue to work on _____ to make him/her a better reader.
  20.  He needs to practice reading at home every day to help make them stronger reader.
  21.  They need to practice their sight words to know them on sight and can spell them.
  22.  He needs to work on their spelling.  Practicing at home would be very beneficial.
  23.  Can read words fluently but has a hard time with comprehension.  Reading with ______ every day would be helpful.
  24.  He could benefit from working on their writing.  Slowing down and taking additional time would help with this.
  25. Is having trouble writing stories.  Encouraging them to tell stories at home would help with this.
  26. He has difficulty knowing when it is appropriate to share their feelings.  We are working on teaching and learning when it is an excellent time to share and an excellent time to listen.
  27. needs to work on their time management skills.  _______can complete their work but spends too much time on other tasks and rarely completes their work.
  28. Needs reminders about classroom routine.  Chatting through the classroom routine at home would be helpful.
  29. He is having difficulty remembering the difference between short and long vowel sounds.  Practicing these at home would be helpful.
  30. He is struggling with reading.  They do not seem to enjoy it and do not want to do it.  Choosing books they like and reading them at home will help them develop a love of reading.
  31. Frequently turns in inadequate homework or does not hand in any homework.  Encouraging _______to complete their homework would be very helpful.
  32. Does not take pride in their work.  We are working to help them feel good about what they accomplish.
  33. Does not participate in small group activities.  Active participation would be beneficial.
  34.  He has difficulty remembering to go back and check their work.  There are spelling and grammar mistakes in their work.
  35. Does not put much effort into their writing.  As a result, their work is messy and incomplete.
  36. He is struggling to understand concepts in science.  Paying attention to the class discussions and the readings we are doing would be beneficial.
  37.  He is reading below grade level.  Intervention is required.
  38. Fails to write a beginning, middle, and end when creating a story.  We are working to distinguish the parts of the stories they are writing.
  39. Is struggling to use reading strategies to help them read higher-level books.
  40. She is terrific at writing creative stories but needs to improve writing nonfiction and using facts.
  41. Has a hard time understanding how to solve word problems.
  42. He needs to slow down and go back and check their work to make sure that all answers are correct.
  43. She is not completing math work that is on grade level.  Intervention is required.
  44. Is struggling to understand place value.
  45. She is very enthusiastic about math but struggles to understand basic concepts.
  46. He has difficulty remembering the value of different coins and how to count them.  Practicing this at home would be helpful.
  47. I would benefit from practicing math facts at home.
  48. She is very engaged during whole group math instruction but struggles to work independently.
  49. Can answer word problems correctly but cannot explain how they got the answer.
  50. Is having a difficult time comparing numbers.
