4 Ways to Make an Easy Paper Box
A paper box is a versatile craft that can be used for various purposes, from gift-giving to home organization. Making a paper box is simple and can be done with materials you already have at home. In this article, we will explore four easy methods to create a paper box.
1. The Basic Folded Box
For this method, you will need a square piece of paper and a pair of scissors.
Step 1: Fold the square paper in half horizontally, then vertically, giving you a smaller square. Unfold the paper and flatten it out.
Step 2: Fold each of the four corners towards the center, creating a new square with four triangles pointing towards the center.
Step 3: Fold the top and bottom edges towards the center of the paper, leaving some space in between them. Unfold these two folds.
Step 4: On both sides of the newly formed rectangle, use scissors to make a cut along the crease line up to the horizontal middle line.
Step 5: Fold in both cut edges towards the middle of the rectangle. The triangle flaps created earlier should now be raised vertically to form sidewalls.
Step 6: Finally, fold down the remaining flaps to close off your box. Your basic folded box is now complete!
2. The Origami Box
An origami box requires no cutting or gluing and can be made using just a square piece of paper.
Step 1: Fold the paper in half both horizontally and vertically so that you have four squares within your original square.
Step 2: Fold each corner of the large square towards its center point. You should now have a smaller square with four triangular flaps on each corner.
Step 3: Unfold two opposite triangular flaps. Now fold one remaining edge towards the center crease line, and repeat for the opposite edge.
Step 4: Lift the flaps you initially unfolded and hold them to form the box shape. Complete the box by pushing in the remaining triangular flaps into the interior.
3. The Cereal Box Method
This method involves using a cereal box or any cardboard packaging as your base.
Step 1: Open and flatten your cereal box. Trace and cut out a square from the cardboard, ensuring all sides are equal in length.
Step 2: Score lines diagonally from each corner without cutting through the cardboard fully. Fold along these scored lines to create triangular flaps on each corner.
Step 3: Using glue or double-sided tape, attach each triangle flap to its neighboring flap on the inside of the box. Press firm to secure your box’s shape.
4. The Toilet Roll Box
For this method, you will need an empty toilet paper roll, scissors, and glue or tape.
Step 1: Flatten your toilet paper roll until it forms a rectangle shape.
Step 2: Cut four equal slits on one end of the flattened roll. These slits should reach around one-third of the way down.
Step 3: Fold the newly created flaps inwards towards each other, overlapping them slightly and securing with glue or tape. This will form one end of your box.
Step 4: To create a lid, repeat steps two and three on the other end of your toilet roll but avoid fully securing it down—allowing you to open and close your box with ease.
These four methods offer simple ways to create paper boxes for various uses, so give them a try! You can further personalize your paper boxes by decorating them with colored paper, paint, or even washi tape to make them more visually appealing. Enjoy crafting!
