4 Ways to Get Butter out of Clothing

Butter stains can be a real nuisance, especially when they find their way onto your favorite piece of clothing. Fortunately, with a little patience and the right approach, you can banish those unsightly stains in no time. In this article, we’ll cover four effective methods to get butter out of clothing, ensuring your garments remain fresh and clean.

1. Dish soap and cold water:

One of the easiest ways to tackle a butter stain is by using dish soap and cold water. Here’s how:

– Gently scrape off any excess butter from the fabric with a spoon or the edge of a blunt knife.

– Dampen the stained area with cold water.

– Apply a few drops of dish soap directly onto the stain and gently rub it in with your fingers.

– Let the soap sit for about 15 minutes.

– Rinse the stained area thoroughly with cold water, making sure to remove all soap residue.

– Check if the stain has been removed. If not, repeat the process until it is gone.

2. Baking soda or cornstarch:

For more stubborn butter stains, you can try using baking soda or cornstarch:

– Begin by removing any excess butter as described in Method 1.

– Generously sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch over the stained area.

– Allow it to sit for at least 30 minutes. This allows the powder to absorb as much grease as possible.

– Gently brush away the powder using a soft-bristled brush or cloth.

– Wash the garment as you normally would.

3. Pre-treatment laundry products:

There are various pre-treatment products designed specifically to tackle greasy stains:

– Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for applying the pre-treatment product directly onto the stain.

– Allow it to sit for the recommended time (usually between 15 and 30 minutes).

– Proceed to wash the garment as normal.

– Remember to check the stain before drying the garment. If it’s still visible, you may need to repeat the process.

4. Dry-cleaning solvent:

If you’ve tried all other methods but still can’t get rid of that pesky butter stain, consider using a dry-cleaning solvent:

– Apply a small amount of the solvent to a clean white cloth.

– Gently dab the solvent onto the stained area, working from the outer edges towards the center. Do not rub, as this may spread the stain.

– Blot dry with another clean cloth or absorbent paper.

– Once the stain is completely gone, wash the garment according to its care label instructions.

In conclusion, butter stains don’t have to ruin your clothes if you know how to approach them correctly. By following these four methods, you’ll be able to keep your garments fresh and free of unsightly grease stains.
