Steel cut oats have been cherished for generations, thanks to their amazing texture and wholesome flavor. As a result, they are increasingly becoming the go-to breakfast option for health-conscious individuals. However, if you’re new to steel cut oats or just seeking some variety, you might be looking for effective ways to cook them. In this article, we’ll explore three distinct methods: stovetop, slow cooker, and instant pot.

1. Stovetop Method

Ingredients:

– 1 cup of steel cut oats

– 3 cups of water

– Pinch of salt

– Optional toppings: fruits, nuts, milk, or sweeteners

Instructions:

a. Start by rinsing your steel cut oats under cold water to remove any impurities.

b. Pour the water into a saucepan and bring it to a boil.

c. Add the steel cut oats and a pinch of salt to the boiling water.

d. Stir the mixture and reduce heat to a simmer.

e. Cook the oats for approximately 20-30 minutes while stirring occasionally. The oats should absorb most of the water and become tender with a slightly chewy texture.

f. Once cooked to your preferred consistency, remove from heat and serve with your favorite toppings.

2. Slow Cooker Method

Ingredients:

– 1 cup of steel cut oats

– 4 cups of water

– Pinch of salt

– Optional toppings: fruits, nuts, milk, or sweeteners

Instructions:

a. Rinse the steel cut oats under cold water.

b. Combine the oats, water, and salt in your slow cooker.

c. Set the slow cooker on low heat and cook for 6-8 hours (preferably overnight).

d. Once you wake up in the morning, give the oats a good stir before serving with your choice of toppings.

3. Instant Pot Method:

Ingredients:

– 1 cup of steel cut oats

– 2 cups of water

– Pinch of salt

– Optional toppings: fruits, nuts, milk, or sweeteners

Instructions:

a. Rinse the steel cut oats with cold water.

b. Add the oats, water, and salt into your instant pot.

c. Close the lid and seal the pressure valve.

d. Set the pot to cook on manual high pressure for 4 minutes.

e. After the timer goes off, allow the pressure to release naturally for 20 minutes.

f. Open the lid carefully and stir your cooked oats.

g. Serve with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

In conclusion, steel cut oats provide a hearty and healthy breakfast option that offers endless variety in taste and texture. Try out these three cooking methods to find your favorite way of preparing this wholesome meal, and feel free to get creative with your choice of toppings to make each bowl uniquely delicious!
