Watermelon is a delightful summer fruit that provides a sweet, refreshing taste as well as numerous health benefits. As the warmer months approach, you may find yourself with an abundance of watermelon. Instead of letting it go to waste, consider freezing it for a delicious and cool treat! Here are four ways to freeze watermelon.

1. Cube and Freeze

One of the simplest ways to freeze watermelon is by cutting it into small cubes:

– Remove the rind from your watermelon and cut the flesh into cube-sized portions.

– Place the cubes onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring that they do not touch one another.

– Freeze the tray for 1-2 hours or until thoroughly frozen.

– Transfer the frozen cubes into a freezer-safe container or resealable plastic bag.

These frozen watermelon cubes are perfect for snacking on hot days or adding to cool beverages like lemonade or infused water.

2. Create Watermelon Popsicles

Transform this summertime favorite into an icy treat by making watermelon popsicles:

– Puree seedless watermelon chunks in a blender until smooth.

– Pour the mixture into popsicle molds, insert sticks, and freeze for at least 4 hours or until completely frozen.

– To remove the popsicles from their molds, briefly run warm water over them before gently pulling on the sticks.

These fruity popsicles are a healthy alternative to store-bought versions and are sure to be loved by kids and adults alike.

3. Prepare Watermelon Sorbet

For an elegant frozen dessert option, turn your surplus watermelon into a delectable sorbet:

– In a blender, puree seedless watermelon chunks with sugar (to taste) until smooth.

– Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least one hour.

– Process in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then freeze for 2-3 hours.

– Before serving, allow the sorbet to sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly.

4. Make Watermelon Slushies

For a refreshing summer drink, watermelon slushies are the perfect answer:

– Cube seedless watermelon and freeze as described in method one.

– In a blender, combine the frozen watermelon cubes with a splash of water, lime juice, and sweetener (such as honey or agave syrup) to taste.

– Blend until slushy consistency is achieved, adding more liquid as needed.

In conclusion, freezing watermelon is an excellent way to enjoy this juicy fruit all summer long. With these four methods of preparation, you can use your frozen watermelon in various ways – from popsicles and slushies to sorbet and simple snack cubes. Give them a try and keep cool during the hot summer months!
