4 Ways to Format a PC

Formatting a PC is an essential process when you need to restore your computer to its factory settings or start with a clean slate. Whether you’re formatting the PC because it’s running slow, infected with viruses, or planning to sell or donate it, proper formatting ensures that the system performs optimally and protects your privacy. In this article, we will explore four ways to format a PC.
1. Using Windows Installation Media:
The Windows installation media method is easy and efficient, as it allows you to format your PC during the operating system installation process.
– Create a bootable USB drive or DVD containing the desired version of Windows.
– Insert the media into your PC and restart the computer.
– During startup, press the appropriate key to access the Boot Menu (usually Esc, F12, or Delete).
– Select the option to boot from your installation media.
– Follow the on-screen prompts until you reach the installation settings. Choose “Custom (advanced)” during installation and select the partition you want to format.
– Click “Format” and confirm. The process will erase all/data from your selected partition.
2. Using Built-in Windows Recovery:
Windows comes with a built-in recovery feature that can help you reset or restore your system to its factory state.
– Open “Settings” and navigate to “Update & Security.”
– Click on “Recovery” and choose “Get Started” under Reset this PC.
– Select either “Keep my files” (which will remove apps and settings but keep personal files) or “Remove everything” (which will erase everything from your PC).
– Follow the on-screen instructions, and Windows will format your computer.
3. Using Third-party Formatting Tools:
There are several third-party applications available for formatting PCs with ease. Some popular options are DBAN (Darik’s Boot and Nuke), Partition Wizard, and GParted.
– Download one of these tools and create bootable USB or CD/DVD media.
– Boot your computer from the created media.
– Select the desired partition(s) to format.
– Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the formatting process.
4. Formatting from BIOS/UEFI:
Formatting a PC using BIOS/UEFI is not recommended for beginners. However, if you are comfortable navigating these settings, it is possible to format your PC by making changes within the BIOS/UEFI interface.
– Restart your computer and press the appropriate key (usually Del or F2) to enter BIOS/UEFI settings.
– Navigate to the section that allows you to configure your storage drives – this often falls under ‘Boot’ or ‘Advanced’ settings.
– Identify and select the partition(s) or drive(s) you wish to format.
– Save changes and exit BIOS/UEFI. Your PC will restart, and all data on the selected partition(s) will be erased.
Remember that formatting your PC permanently erases all data on the selected partition or drive, so be sure to back up any important files beforehand. Whichever method you choose, proper formatting can give your computer a fresh start, secure its performance, and ensure your privacy.
