Now, layer concrete blocks around the edge to secure the structure of your in-ground firepit and cover it with heat-resistant bricks for fire protection.

3. Metal Bowl Firepit

A metal bowl fire pit is portable and easy to assemble, making it an excellent choice for those who want flexibility in their outdoor space. Purchase a large, heat-resistant metal bowl that fits within your budget, such as stainless steel or cast iron. Place the bowl on top of a sturdy base made from bricks or stones to elevate it off the ground. Fill your metal bowl approximately halfway with sand or lava rocks (which can withstand high temperatures). Light your kindling on top and enjoy!

4. Gas-Powered Firepit

Gas-powered firepits are an excellent option if you want a clean and low-maintenance fire source without dealing with wood and ash. Begin by selecting the location for your gas-powered firepit and preparing the area as mentioned in Step 1 of building a classic stone firepit. Instead of using stones or bricks for the base, create a gas line trench that connects your natural gas supply to the firepit location. Install a burner kit specifically designed for gas-powered firepits, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Layer heat-resistant lava rocks, glass beads, or fire glass on top of the burner to create an appealing and functional aesthetic.
