4 Ways to Apply 1960s Style Eye Makeup

The 1960s was a decade of bold and transformative fashion trends, one of which included the iconic eye makeup looks. From the doe-eyed Twiggy to the sultry cat-eye of Brigitte Bardot, the styles were diverse and captivating. Here are four ways to apply 1960s style eye makeup that will transport you back in time.

1. The Twiggy Lashes:

One of the most emblematic looks of the 1960s is the Twiggy lash, popularized by British model Twiggy Lawson. To achieve this look, follow these steps:

– Start by applying a matte neutral eyeshadow all over your eyelid as a base.

– Next, use a white or pale-colored eyeshadow on your brow bone and inner corner for highlight.

– Then, create a subtle cut crease with a darker eyeshadow applied with a precise brush.

– Apply thick coats of volumizing mascara on both your upper and lower lashes.

– For added intensity, use false lashes on both top and bottom lash lines, focusing on spacing them evenly apart to create Twiggy’s iconic “doll-like” appearance.

2. The Cat-Eye:

Channel your inner Brigitte Bardot with this sultry cat-eye look:

– Apply a light eyeshadow as a base on your eyelids.

– Using an angled brush, draw a dark eyeshadow or gel liner from the outer corner of your eyes upward at an angle.

– Connect the outer wing to half of your upper lash line in a single stroke.

– Fill in any gaps to create an even cat-eye appearance.

– Apply mascara to accentuate both top and bottom lashes for an extra flirty look.

3. The Smoky Eye:

The smoky eye took center stage during the 1960s, thanks to icons like Joan Baez and Jane Fonda. To recreate the look, follow these steps:

– Begin with a medium-tone eyeshadow applied all over your eyelids.

– Next, apply a darker shade to the outer corner and crease of your eyes, blending well to create a gradient effect.

– Apply the same dark shade along both upper and lower lash lines to frame the eye.

– Optional: Line your waterline with black kohl pencil for added intensity.

– Finish the look with mascara on both top and bottom lashes.

4. The Cut Crease:

The cut crease was a popular makeup trend in the 1960s, resulting in a dramatic and defined eye look. To achieve this style:

– Start by applying a neutral base eyeshadow to even out your eyelid.

– Using a pencil brush, draw a dark eyeshadow in a slightly curved line on your eyelid’s crease.

– Gradually build up the color for desired intensity by layering more pigment, focusing precisely on the crease line.

– Apply a lighter shade on your lid to intensify the contrast between the colors and create that distinctive “cut” effect.

– Complete the look by applying volumizing mascara to your upper and lower lashes.

By following these four methods to create iconic 1960s style eye makeup looks, you can pay homage to this transformative era while adding some vintage flair to your beauty routine.
