4 Ways AI Will Be a Great Teaching Assistant

There has been quite a lot of talk recently about how Artificial Intelligence could influence the human race and the potential it has and could have in the future. Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos might be strong contenders in the world of AI, and they believe that the development of artificial intelligence is an opportunity for improvement and growth. However, others believe that it comes with more liabilities than benefits.

This debate is even more prevalent when it comes to AI in the field of education, particularly when we talk about artificial intelligence in the classroom. We’re going to set any suspicions aside and discuss why AI in the classroom is beneficial.

Adaptive Learning

Adaptive learning is used to take personalized learning to a new, deeper level. The best learning experience that a student can receive is one that is not only customized based on their specific needs, knowledge, and interest but also adapts to these things as the student progresses.

A teacher can’t do this for a class of 30 learners on their own. In reality, they cannot do it with as little as 10 learners. When it comes to higher education, where there will be a few hundred students taking the same course, adaptive learning seems impossible.

Thankfully, AI can help bridge this gap. Some students might be excellent linguists who struggle with chemistry, or mathematicians who struggle with literature, or great at learning history but struggle with computer sciences.

Artificial intelligence can monitor each student and help the teachers do so, as well, so that intervention can take place where it is needed.

Course Planning

Planning a course is an essential task that all teachers must carry out, and because it is so integral to education, it takes time to execute correctly. Planning lessons can take so much time that, if teachers put all of their focus into planning the course, they would not have any time left to teach it.

AI allows teachers to plan courses in a fraction of the time it would typically take, while still being effective and efficient. There are even some apps that help with this task.

Using a platform like Pedagogue allows educators to use the 30 lesson templates to quickly and easily create exciting, content-rich, and interactive lessons without spending hours doing so.

Assessing Papers

Assessing is another task that tends to take a teacher a lot of time, regardless of the level of students they are teaching. Grading hundreds of papers at a time is not exactly something that fills teachers with joy – in fact, it tends to do quite the opposite.

AI is capable of helping teachers out in this regard. STEM subjects are the easiest to automate, but certain software can learn all of the ways to reach the solution to a math equation and assess the papers appropriately.

Student Support

Students have plenty of questions when they’re learning, and that is part of the learning process. The more students a teacher has, the more questions they are going to be asked.

Sometimes, it can seem impossible to know all of the answers to all of these questions at once, and providing the proper feedback is difficult. AI helps teachers build the support bond that is so crucial to an effective teaching method. It can reply to queries that students have within minutes, which gives the teacher more time to think and formulate a proper response.

Summary

Artificial intelligence is no longer an abstract concept that belongs to science-fiction movies. It is entering the real world in new and exciting ways, not the least of which is the classroom. As a teaching assistant, AI can help teachers make the classroom a more engaging, interactive learning environment.
