Weighted blankets have gained significant popularity in recent years due to their potential benefits, such as reducing anxiety, improving sleep quality, and providing overall comfort. With a wide variety of options available in the market, choosing the perfect weighted blanket might seem overwhelming. Here we present four tips that can help you make an informed decision while selecting the best weighted blanket for your needs.

1. Determine the Right Weight

The weight of the blanket plays a crucial role in ensuring its effectiveness and comfort. In general, it’s recommended that you choose a blanket that is around 10% of your body weight. This ratio provides a comfortable and even pressure while you sleep. However, it’s also essential to consider your personal preferences and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any health concerns.

2. Choose the Appropriate Size

Choosing the right size of a weighted blanket is essential as it helps to ensure appropriate coverage for your body and bed. Make sure you take into account not only your own size but also the dimensions of your bed before making a decision. A common mistake buyers make is purchasing a blanket that is too big, resulting in weight being distributed across the bed rather than exclusively on the person.

3. Consider the Fabric Material

Weighted blankets are available in various materials such as cotton, polyester, fleece, and even high-end options like bamboo or eucalyptus fabrics. When selecting a fabric type, consider factors such as breathability, warmth, durability, and allergies (if any). For example, if you tend to sleep hot or live in a warmer climate, opt for breathable fabrics like cotton or bamboo. On the other hand, if you’re looking for something cozy and warm during colder months, you may prefer fleece or flannel options.

4. Research Filling Types

The filling used inside weighted blankets largely determines their texture and overall feel. There are two primary types of fillings: glass bead and plastic pellet. Glass beads tend to be smaller and denser, providing a smoother texture, while plastic pellets are larger and lighter, creating a more textured feel. Depending on your personal preferences and sensory needs, weigh the pros and cons of both options.

In conclusion, finding the best weighted blanket for your needs requires paying attention to various factors such as weight, size, fabric material, and filling type. By considering these tips, you can make a more informed decision and invest in a blanket that will provide you with maximum comfort and potential benefits.
