3 Ways to Unhide Rows in Excel

When working with large data sets in Microsoft Excel, it’s often necessary to hide rows with irrelevant data or to make the spreadsheet more compact and focused. However, there may be times when you need to unhide those hidden rows either for making updates or presenting the complete data set. In this article, we will explore three ways to unhide rows in Excel.

1. Using the “Unhide” option in the context menu:

This method is handy when you know which specific rows are hidden and want to unhide them selectively.

Step 1: Select the rows surrounding the hidden ones by clicking on their row numbers while holding the Ctrl key. For example, if rows 5 and 6 are hidden, select rows 4 and 7.

Step 2: Right-click on either of the selected row numbers and choose “Unhide” from the context menu. The previously hidden rows will now be visible.

2. Using the “Format Cells” option:

If you want to unhide a range of consecutive hidden rows, you can use Excel’s Format Cells option.

Step 1: Click on the row number above the first hidden row and drag down until you reach the last hidden row. This selection should include both visible and hidden rows within your intended range.

Step 2: Go to the Home tab, locate the Cells group, and click on Format. In the dropdown menu that appears, choose “Hide & Unhide” followed by “Unhide Rows.” All of the hidden rows within your selected range will now be visible.

3. Using a keyboard shortcut:

For those who prefer a quick keyboard shortcut, this method allows you to unhide all rows regardless of how many are hidden or their location within your spreadsheet.

Step 1: Press Ctrl + A (Cmd + A on Mac) to select all cells in your worksheet.

Step 2: Press Ctrl + Shift + 9 (Cmd + Shift + 9 on Mac) to unhide all hidden rows within your selected range. All of your hidden rows should now be visible, regardless of their location in the sheet.

In conclusion, unhiding rows in Excel can be accomplished in various ways depending on the situation and personal preference. Whether you need to reveal specific rows, a range of rows, or every hidden row in your spreadsheet, one of these methods should suit your needs. Familiarize yourself with these three techniques so that you can easily access your hidden data when required.
