3 Ways to Section Hair

Introduction:

Sectioning hair can make styling much easier and more efficient, ensuring that you get even coverage and a polished result. Whether you’re applying a hair treatment, using hot styling tools or creating braids, knowing how to section your hair is essential. In this article, we’ll cover three easy methods for sectioning your hair.

1. The Four Quadrant Method

The four quadrant method is perfect for those who have medium to thick hair and want a simple way to divide their hair into manageable sections. To use this method:

a. Start by combing your hair to remove any tangles.

b. Use the handle of a rat-tail comb to create a straight part down the middle of your head from the front hairline to the nape of your neck.

c. Create another part perpendicular to the first one, from one ear to the other across the top of your head.

d. You now have four equal sections of hair; use hair clips or elastic bands to hold each section in place.

2. Horizontal Sections

Horizontal sectioning works well for layered hairstyles or if you’re applying hair dye. To create horizontal sections:

a. Comb your hair thoroughly and then part it down the center from front to back.

b. Decide how many horizontal sections you need based on the length and thickness of your hair.

c. Starting at the nape of your neck, use a rat-tail comb to create a horizontal part across your head.

d. Clip up the rest of your hair, leaving only the bottom section loose.

e. As you work through styling or treatment, move up and create new horizontal sections until you reach the top of your head.

3. Vertical Sections

Vertical sections are ideal for fine or thinning hair because they offer better control when styling with hot tools like flat irons or curlers. To create vertical sections:

a. Begin by combing your hair and creating a middle part from the front hairline to the nape of your neck.

b. Then, divide each side of your head into equal vertical sections by using a rat-tail comb.

c. Secure each vertical section with hair clips or elastic bands.

d. Style or apply treatment to each section, working from front to back.

Conclusion:

Learning how to section your hair based on your hair type and styling needs takes practice but can lead to more efficient and polished results. Whether you’re using the four quadrant method, horizontal sections, or vertical sections, proper sectioning will allow you to style your hair with ease and precision. So give these techniques a try and enjoy stress-free and stunning hairstyles!
