3 Ways to Raise Your Standards

In the pursuit of personal growth and self-improvement, raising your standards is an essential step. Whether it’s in our relationships, career, health, or personal goals, elevating our standards helps us inch closer to becoming the best version of ourselves. It encourages us to raise the bar for what we accept and expect from ourselves and others. Here are three ways you can start raising your standards today.

1. Identify and Clarify Your Values

Reflect on your core beliefs and values. What really matters to you? What are the guiding principles you want to live by? Knowing your values sets a solid foundation for the standards you establish in all areas of your life. To begin, make a list of your top five values and think about how they align with your current habits, choices, and environment. If there’s any misalignment, it’s time to reevaluate and make changes. For example, if one of your values is self-discipline but you find yourself routinely procrastinating, it’s time to raise your standard in that area.

2. Surround Yourself With High-Standard People

The people we surround ourselves with have a significant influence on our lives. If we spend time with those who have high standards, we are more likely to adopt similar expectations for ourselves. Seek out friends or mentors who demonstrate behaviors that align with your values and standards. They will challenge and inspire you to raise your own game. This doesn’t mean cutting ties with everyone who fails to meet your expectations; instead, find a balance between those who lift you up and those who need your support while maintaining clear boundaries.

3. Set Challenging Goals

Another way to raise your standards is by setting challenging goals that push you out of your comfort zone. These goals should be aligned with your values and require significant effort to achieve, helping you grow mentally and emotionally in the process.

Begin by creating SMART goals – specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Break them down into smaller objectives to help you track your progress. As you reach milestones in your journey, acknowledge and reward yourself for the progress made.

On your path to raising your standards, remember that self-compassion plays a crucial role. Mistakes and setbacks are part of the process. Embrace them, learn from them, and continue pushing forward with renewed determination. By identifying your values, surrounding yourself with high-standard individuals, and setting challenging goals, you’ll be well on your way to experiencing personal growth and improvement – elevating your life to a whole new level.
