3 Ways to Peel a Mango

Introduction:

One of the world’s most beloved fruits, the mango is known for its juicy sweetness and refreshing taste. However, peeling a mango can be a bit tricky due to its slippery texture and large, flat pit. To help you master this skill, we’ve compiled three easy techniques to peel a mango and unlock its tropical goodness.

Method 1: The Slice-and-Scoop Method

1. Wash the mango under running water and dry it thoroughly.

2. Place the mango on a cutting board with the stem side facing up.

3. Use a sharp knife to slice about 1/4-inch off the stem side, exposing the pit.

4. Hold the mango vertically with one hand and slice downwards on each side, avoiding the pit in the middle.

5. Take one half of the mango and make crosshatch cuts into the flesh without cutting through the skin.

6. Push the skin with your thumb and fingers to turn it inside out—the cubes will easily pop out of their skin.

7. Remove them using your fingers or spoon, repeat for both halves.

Method 2: Peeling Technique With a Glass

1. Wash and dry your mango.

2. As in Method 1, slice both sides off from around the pit. It will leave you with two mango “cheeks.”

3. Take a drinking glass with a thin rim and place it at the junction between the flesh and skin of one half.

4. Apply gentle pressure to slide down along with the skin.

5. The fruit will come away from its peel neatly inside your glass—repeat for both halves.

Method 3: The Traditional Peeling Method

1. Clean your mango by rinsing under running water and pat-drying it.

2. Place it on your cutting board vertically on a stable surface.

3. Use a sharp knife or a peeler to peel off the skin from top to bottom, working your way all around the fruit.

4. Once fully skinned, slice off both sides of the fruit and remove flesh from the pit.

Conclusion:

With these three methods at your disposal, you can now choose the best way to peel a mango based on your preference and level of comfort. Enjoy this exotic fruit in salads, smoothies, or as a snack, and reap its nutritional benefits with ease.
