3 Ways to Open Car Doors

Introduction

There are times when we accidentally lock ourselves out of our cars or encounter situations where the car door is jammed and difficult to open. In such cases, it is crucial to remain calm and explore alternative techniques to gain access to your vehicle. Typically, there are three primary methods to open a car door: using a key or remote, employing lockout tools, or leveraging professional assistance.

1. Using a Key or Remote

The traditional way to open a car door is by inserting the key into the keyhole and turning it or pressing the unlock button on the key fob. Modern vehicles come with smart keys that allow you to unlock and start your car without taking your keys out of your pocket. Here’s how:

– For traditional keys, insert the key into the driver’s side door keyhole and turn it either left or right (usually towards the rear of the car) to unlock the car door.

– For remote key fobs, ensure you are within range (typically 5-10 meters). Press the unlock button on the key fob, and you should hear a beep or see flashing lights signaling that the doors have been unlocked.

– With smart keys, place your hand behind the door handle. The sensors will recognize your presence and automatically unlock the door.

2. Employing Lockout Tools

If you find yourself locked out of your car without access to a key or remote, you can use various lockout tools available in the market to regain entry. However, it is essential to exercise caution and avoid causing any damage to your vehicle. Some popular tools include:

– Big Easy: This long rod effortlessly slides between the window glass and weatherstripping, allowing you to press or hook onto the appropriate internal locking mechanism.

– Slim Jim: A flat metal strip with notches on one end used for older cars that lack electronic components. Gently slide it between the door and the window glass to unlock the door latch.

– Air wedge: A durable, inflatable device inserted between the door and frame. It creates enough space for you to insert lockout tools. Pump it up slowly to avoid damages to your vehicle.

3. Leveraging Professional Assistance

If you are not comfortable using lockout tools or concerned about causing damages to your vehicle, seeking professional help is always an option. Expert locksmiths have the required tools, experience, and skills to unlock your car door without imposing any risk of damage. Roadside assistance services are another possible solution, as they often provide lockout help as part of their memberships.

Conclusion

Getting locked out of your car can be a frustrating and time-consuming experience. Knowing these three primary methods to open car doors can come in handy during such situations. Choose the best option based on your circumstances, and remember to follow safety precautions, especially when using lockout tools, to prevent damages to your vehicle.
