Introduction:

Accurate measurements are essential when it comes to buying clothing, especially in the case of dress shirts. Neck size and sleeve length are two of the most important factors to consider, as they affect the overall fit and comfort of the shirt. In this article, we will go over three methods to accurately measure your neck size and sleeve length so you can find the perfect fit for your next dress shirt.

1. Measuring Your Neck Size:

The first step is to measure your neck size. To do this, you’ll need a flexible measuring tape.

– First, make sure you are standing straight with your shoulders relaxed.

– Wrap the measuring tape around the base of your neck, where your collar would normally sit.

– Ensure that the tape is snug but not too tight, allowing enough room for breathability.

– Record the measurement in inches or centimeters, depending on your preference.

2. Measuring Your Sleeve Length – Bend Arm Method:

There are two popular methods for obtaining accurate sleeve length measurements. The first one is the bend arm method.

– Stand straight with your shoulders relaxed.

– Bend your elbow at a 90-degree angle.

– Place one end of the measuring tape at the center back of your neck (just below the nape).

– Run it across your shoulder and down to the point where your arm meets your body (just past your shoulder).

– Continue measuring along your bent arm until you reach your wrist or desired cuff length.

– Record this measurement in inches or centimeters.

3. Measuring Your Sleeve Length – Straight Arm Method:

The second method for measuring sleeve length is using the straight arm method.

– Stand straight with your shoulders relaxed and arms hanging by your sides.

– Place one end of the measuring tape at the center back of your neck (just below the nape).

– Run it across your shoulder and along the outside of your arm, all the way down to your wrist or desired cuff length.

– Record this measurement in inches or centimeters.

Conclusion:

Accurate neck size and sleeve length measurements ensure a comfortable and well-fitted dress shirt. By using one of the three methods mentioned above, you can easily determine your measurements before making your next purchase. Make sure to record these numbers for future reference and enjoy the confidence that comes with a perfectly fitted dress shirt.
