Introduction:

Adding decorative garden mushrooms is an excellent way to bring a touch of whimsy and enchantment to your outdoor space. These charming ornaments can be made using various materials and techniques, ensuring that you’ll find the perfect style to complement your garden’s aesthetic. Here are three creative ways to make decorative garden mushrooms that will delight visitors and enhance your garden’s ambiance.

1. Concrete Garden Mushrooms

Materials:

– Concrete mix

– Large bowl

– Small bowl

– Cooking spray or oil

– Wooden dowel or stick

– Acrylic paint

Instructions:

1. Prepare the concrete mix according to the instructions on the package.

2. Coat the inside of both the large and small bowls with cooking spray or oil.

3. Fill the large bowl halfway with concrete, then press the small bowl in the center, creating a mushroom cap shape.

4. Insert the wooden dowel into the concrete at the cap’s center. Ensure it’s deep enough for stability and extends about halfway down the cap.

5. Allow the concrete to set according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

6. Carefully remove both bowls and place your mushroom cap in a safe place to dry fully.

7. Paint your mushroom cap using acrylic paint in any color of your choice, allowing each color to dry fully between coats.

8. Once completely dry, attach your mushroom cap to an existing garden stake, fence, or sculpture for added charm.

2. Clay Pot & Saucer Mushrooms

Materials:

– Terracotta pot and saucer (various sizes for different mushrooms)

– Waterproof outdoor glue

– Acrylic paint and paintbrushes

– Clear sealant spray

Instructions:

1. Clean and dry both terracotta pot and saucer thoroughly.

2. Paint the outside of your pot in any color or design that complements your garden aesthetic; this will become the mushroom stem. Let dry completely.

3. Paint the saucer; this will become your mushroom cap. Get creative with your color choices, patterns, or designs. Allow to dry fully.

4. Apply waterproof outdoor glue around the terracotta pot’s rim.

5. Place the saucer upside down on the glued rim, ensuring a tight seal.

6. Allow the glue to dry, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

7. Finish by spraying completed mushroom with a clear sealant to protect it from weather and sun fading.

1. Upcycled Glass Mushrooms

Materials:

– Glass vase or jar (for stem)

– Glass bowl or plate (for cap)

– Waterproof glass adhesive

– Spray paint for glass surfaces

Instructions:

1. Thoroughly clean and dry the glass vase or jar and bowl or plate.

2. Using spray paint designed for glass surfaces, paint the vase or jar in your desired color; this will become your mushroom stem.

3. Paint the bowl or plate, which will act as your mushroom cap; get as creative as you like with colors and designs.

4. Allow both painted components to dry completely.

5. Apply waterproof glass adhesive around the mouth of your vase or jar.

6. Press the painted bowl or plate onto the vase’s mouth, ensuring a firm bond between them.

7. Allow the adhesive to cure based on manufacturer’s instructions before placing it in your garden.

Conclusion:

Creating decorative garden mushrooms is an easy and enjoyable way to personalize your outdoor space and add a touch of magic to any garden! Whether using concrete, clay pots, or upcycled glassware, these three methods offer endless possibilities for customizing your garden mushrooms to reflect your unique style and personality. Happy crafting!
