A kazoo is a humble yet versatile musical instrument that produces sound through vibrations in the player’s voice, giving it a buzzing timbre. Making your own kazoo can be a fun and engaging project for people of all ages. In this article, we’ll explore three easy ways to create your very own kazoo.

1. The Classic Paper Kazoo

Materials:

– Toilet paper roll or paper towel roll

– Wax paper

– Rubber band

– Scissors

– Optional: markers or paint for decoration

Instructions:

1. Cut a small piece of wax paper large enough to cover one end of the toilet paper roll.

2. Place the wax paper on top of the open end, ensuring it completely covers it.

3. Secure the wax paper in place by wrapping a rubber band tightly around it.

4. Use your scissors to poke a small hole near the other end of the tube (not covered by wax paper).

5. Decorate your kazoo with markers, paint, or stickers if you wish.

6. To play your kazoo, hum into the open end while covering and uncovering the hole with your finger.

2. The Plastic Comb Kazoo

Materials:

– Plastic comb

– Tissue paper

– Scissors

Instructions:

1. Cut a long strip of tissue paper approximately twice as wide as the length of the comb.

2. Fold the tissue paper over one side of the comb so that it wraps around both the teeth and flat part.

3. Hold your new kazoo with one hand on each side, keeping the tissue paper in place.

4. To play your kazoo, hum or sing directly into the tissue-wrapped teeth.

3. The Straw Kazoo

Materials:

– Plastic drinking straw

– Scissors

Instructions:

1. Flatten one end of the straw by biting or pinching it.

2. Use your scissors to cut the flattened end into a V-shape.

3. Place the V-shaped end into your mouth, leaving at least half of it exposed.

4. To play your straw kazoo, blow air gently in-between the V-shaped cuts.

Creating a kazoo is an engaging and educational project that provides endless entertainment. Whether you prefer the classic paper kazoo, the plastic comb version, or a simple straw kazoo, you’re sure to provide lots of musical fun for yourself and those around you. Give these easy DIY projects a try – who knows, you might just discover your hidden potential to kazoo like a pro!
