How to Measure Your Pants: 8 Steps
Measuring your pants is an essential skill when shopping for new pairs, ensuring a good fit and ultimate comfort. Follow these eight steps to measure your pants accurately and with ease.
1. Lay the pants on a flat surface: Choose a large, even surface like a table or floor to lay your pants fully extended. Make sure there are no wrinkles or folds.
2. Measure the waist: Start by measuring the waistband, which is the topmost part of your pants. Stretch it out completely and use a tape measure to record the end-to-end length. To find your total waist measurement, double the received number.
3. Measure the hips: To measure the hips, locate the widest part of your pants, typically around 7-9 inches below the waistband. Lay the tape measure flat across this area and record the measurement. Double this number for your total hip measurement.
4. Measure the rise: The rise of your pants is the distance between the waistband and the crotch seam. Place one end of the tape at the center back waistband and measure straight down to where it meets the crotch seam at the bottom.
5. Measure the inseam: To measure your inseam, locate the very bottom edge of your pant leg’s inner seam and place one end of a measuring tape there. Run it up along that seam all the way up to where it meets with your crotch seam.
6. Measure thigh width: Find your thigh width by placing your tape measure approximately one inch below the crotch seam on one leg, extending horizontally across its fullest part. Note this measurement for reference when shopping for new pants.
7. Measure knee width: For knee width, place your measuring tape halfway down from where you measured thigh width and extend it horizontally across until it’s touching both sides comfortably without creating tension on any folds.
8. Measure pant leg openings: Finally, measure the width of your pant leg openings to ensure they suit your preference. Lay the tape measure flat across one leg at the bottom hem and record the measurement. Double the result to get the full leg opening size.
By using these eight steps, you can accurately and confidently measure your pants to find the perfect fit in any future purchases. Say goodbye to guesswork and enjoy a well-fitted, comfortable wardrobe.
