3 Ways to Hang Voile and Curtains Together

Curtains are an essential aspect of any interior design, not only because they provide privacy and prevent sunlight from entering your space but also because they enhance the general aesthetic of the room. One popular trend in window treatments is hanging voile curtains together with heavier drapes. Voile is a lightweight, sheer fabric that adds an elegant touch to your window dressing, while simultaneously allowing natural light to filter through. Here are three stylish ways to hang voile and curtains together.

1. Layered Look

One of the most popular methods to combine voile and curtains is through layering. First, install a double curtain rod or track system that can support both layers of fabric. Hang the voile curtain on the inner rod or track, so it sits closest to the window. Next, hang your heavier curtain on the outer rod or track. This way, you can fully close both layers independently for added privacy or ambiance.

For a contemporary look, choose complementary colors for both fabrics – this can either be subtle hues or contrasting bold shades. For a cohesive look, consider coordinating patterns between the two fabrics.

2. Tied Back Design

Another charming method to hang voiles and curtains together involves using tiebacks. Start by hanging both curtains on a single rod or track system side by side – voiles first and then your heavier drapes.

To achieve this chic appearance, use decorative tiebacks or holdbacks installed at slightly different heights on either side of the window frame. Gently pull both layers of fabric back and secure each layer separately using its respective tieback or holdback. This creates an elegantly draped look for both fabrics while allowing natural light in through the sheers.

3. Sewn Together

For a seamless integration of voile and curtains, consider sewing them together along the leading edge just below the curtain rings or hooks. Using a sewing machine or hand-stitching, attach the voile fabric to the lined side edge of the heavier curtain. Hang both fabrics from a single rod or track system, with the voile layer towards the window and the curtains facing outward.

This technique is great for achieving a consistent and polished finish. It also saves on hardware costs, as no additional rods or tracks are needed. However, it’s essential to note that sewing your curtains together makes it more challenging to clean them individually and restricts you from separating them for varied light control.

In conclusion, hanging voile and curtains together can add depth, elegance, and versatility to your window treatments. By experimenting with these three methods – layered look, tied back design, or sewing the two fabrics together – you can create a stylish and functional combination to enhance your home’s interior decor. Whichever method you choose, be sure to select complementary fabrics that suit your design preferences and desired level of natural light filtration.
