3 Ways to Grow Out an Undercut

Growing out an undercut can be a daunting experience. Not only do you have to contend with uneven lengths and textures, but you also have to figure out how to style it in the meantime. But fear not! We’ve put together a list of three ways to make the process smoother and more manageable. Here’s what you need to know:

1. Regular Trims

One of the most crucial steps in growing out an undercut is regular trims. While it may seem counterintuitive, keeping your hair well-groomed actually encourages growth and prevents breakage. Schedule trims every 6-8 weeks for optimal results, and ask your stylist to focus on maintaining the overall shape of your haircut while removing any split ends or damage. This will ensure that your hair is healthy and able to grow at a steady pace.

2. Styling Tricks

During the awkward growing-out phase, styling your hair becomes especially important. You’ll want to experiment with different techniques that will blend the two different lengths effectively. Braids are an excellent option because they can incorporate shorter undercuts into various styles easily. Other popular choices include half-up-dos, strategic pinning with bobby pins, or slicking back the shorter section with a touch of styling product like pomade or gel.

For those who prefer a more casual approach, try wearing headbands or bandanas to help mask the difference in lengths while adding a stylish accent to your look.

3. Supplemental Haircare

Your haircut may be growing out, but it’s also important to maintain hair health during this time. This means incorporating conditioning treatments into your routine and avoiding excessive heat-styling or chemical processes that could weaken strands.

A few supplemental hair care options include:

– Deep conditioning treatments: These will nourish and hydrate your locks on a deeper level than regular conditioners.

– Protein treatments: If your hair is prone to breakage, adding protein treatments can help strengthen and protect it.

– Gentle hair brushes: Relying on well-made brushes or combs can help minimize stress on your locks and reduce breakage, making the growing-out process more pleasant.

By making sure to follow these three steps, you’ll be on your way to a seamless transition from undercut to fully grown-out locks. All it takes is a little patience, effort, and understanding that your hair will eventually return to its former glory.
