3 Ways to Fold a Dress

Introduction:

Folding a dress is not only essential for keeping your closet organized, but it also helps maintain the shape and integrity of your garments. Whether you’re packing for a trip or simply organizing your wardrobe, knowing how to fold a dress properly can make all the difference. In this article, we will explore three different ways to fold a dress to keep it wrinkle-free and ready to wear.

1. The Basic Fold:

This method is suitable for casual, everyday dresses and works best with lightweight fabrics. To fold the dress using the basic fold method, follow these steps:

a. Lay the dress flat on a clean surface, with the front side facing up.

b. Fold the sleeves inward, aligning them with the shoulders of the dress.

c. Fold the sides of the dress inward, overlapping them at the center.

d. Finally, fold the bottom half of the dress up towards the neckline.

2. The Bundle Fold:

Ideal for wrinkle-prone fabrics like silk and satin, the bundle fold is designed to keep your dress as smooth as possible during storage or travel.

a. Lay the dress flat on a clean surface, with the back side facing up.

b. Place a sheet of tissue paper over the entire length of the dress.

c. Carefully fold in any sleeves or straps and place another layer of tissue paper over them.

d. Start rolling from one end (either top or bottom) like you would roll up a sleeping bag.

e. Once fully rolled, use garment bags or ziplock bags to store and protect your bundled dresses while traveling.

3. The Hanger-and-Bag Method:

Though not exactly folding per se, this method is perfect for preserving delicate formal gowns and cocktail dresses that should not be folded or stored flat.

a. Place your gown on an appropriate hanger, preferably one with padding to avoid any marks on your dress.

b. If applicable, gently fold any bulk like a train or pouf skirt so that it rests nicely along the length of the dress.

c. Using a garment bag specifically designed for gowns, slip the dress into the bag while keeping the hanger exposed.

d. To store, hang the gown in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Conclusion:

Knowing how to fold a dress properly can help you keep your wardrobe in pristine condition, while avoiding unwanted wrinkles or creases. With these three methods at your disposal, you can ensure that you’ll be ready to showcase your favorite dresses at a moment’s notice.
