3 Ways to Convert MPG to Liters per 100km

Introduction:

Understanding fuel efficiency is essential for drivers everywhere. Two commonly used measurements are miles per gallon (MPG) and liters per 100 kilometers (L/100km). While they both express fuel consumption, people in the United States tend to use MPG, while most European countries use L/100km. In this article, we will discuss three ways to convert MPG to L/100km.

1.The Mathematical Formula:

One way to convert MPG to L/100km is by using a mathematical formula. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Divide 100 by the given MPG value.

For example, if your vehicle’s fuel efficiency is 30 MPG, perform the calculation: 100 ÷ 30 = 3.33

Step 2: Multiply the result by a conversion factor of 235.2145.

Continuing the example above: 3.33 × 235.2145 ≈ 783.56

Step 3: Round your answer to two decimal places.

The L/100km value for our example would be approximately 7.84 L/100km.

2.Using an Online Converter:

A more straightforward way to convert MPG to L/100km is by using an online converter tool. There are many websites with conversion tools available; simply search for “MPG to L/100km converter.” To use these tools, enter your vehicle’s fuel efficiency in MPG and click “convert” or a similar button – the website will then display the converted value in L/100km.

3.Mobile Application:

If you travel frequently between countries that use different fuel efficiency measures, consider downloading a mobile application designed specifically for converting between MPG and L/100km values. These apps can be especially helpful when renting vehicles or comparing car models from different regions on-the-go basis.

Some mobile applications to consider include

– “Convert Units”

– “Unit Plus Converter”

– “Fuelly MPG, L/100km Calculator”

Search your preferred app store and make sure to read reviews and features of the different conversion applications available.

Conclusion:

Understanding and converting between MPG and L/100km fuel efficiency measurements is crucial for making informed decisions when renting or purchasing a car. Familiarize yourself with one or more of these three ways to convert between the two systems – whether it be a mathematical formula, an online converter tool, or a mobile application – so you’ll always be prepared no matter where you travel.
