Copper is a versatile metal known for its excellent heat conductivity and aesthetic appeal. However, like any other material, it can get dirty or burnt, especially if used in kitchenware or other household items. Luckily, there are a few simple methods to clean burnt copper and restore its luster. In this article, we’ll explore three ways to clean burnt copper effectively: using vinegar and salt, lemon and baking soda, and commercial cleaners.

1. Vinegar and Salt

Vinegar and salt are both natural ingredients that can be found in most households. When combined, they create an effective cleaning solution for burnt copper.

– Materials needed: white vinegar, salt, a soft cloth or sponge, warm water.

– Steps:

1. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and salt in a bowl to form a paste.

2. Apply the paste onto the burnt areas of the copper item using the soft cloth or sponge.

3. Gently rub the paste in a circular motion until the burnt marks start to fade away.

4. Rinse the copper item with warm water to remove any residue from the cleaning mixture.

5. Dry the copper item thoroughly with a soft cloth.

2. Lemon and Baking Soda

Lemon has natural acidic properties that can help remove grime and burnt residues, while baking soda acts as an abrasive agent to clean surfaces without scratching them.

– Materials needed: lemon, baking soda, soft cloth or sponge, warm water.

– Steps:

1. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze out its juice into a bowl.

2. Add some baking soda to the lemon juice until you form a thick paste.

3. Apply the paste onto the affected areas of your burnt copper item using a soft cloth or sponge.

4. Rub gently in circular motions to lift away the burnt marks.

5. Rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove cleaning residue.

6. Dry the copper item completely using a soft cloth.

3. Commercial Copper Cleaners

There are multiple commercial copper cleaners available in the market that can help you quickly and effectively clean your burnt copper items. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using these products.

– Materials needed: commercial copper cleaner, soft cloth or sponge, warm water.

– Steps:

1. Apply a small amount of the copper cleaner onto the burnt areas of your copper item as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

2. Gently rub the cleaner in circular motions using a soft cloth or sponge until the burnt marks are removed.

3. Rinse your copper item with warm water to get rid of any remaining cleaner.

4. Dry your copper item with a soft cloth to restore its shine.

In conclusion, there are several methods to clean burnt copper that use materials you likely have in your household or can easily purchase. By choosing one of these three solutions – vinegar and salt, lemon and baking soda, or a commercial cleaner – you can effectively clean and restore your burnt copper items to their original splendor.
