3 Ways to Cite a Website with No Author

In the age of digital content, citing websites is essential for any academic or professional work. When authorship is clear, this task can be simple. However, when encountering a website or article with no apparent author, determining how to properly cite your source can be challenging. This article will address three methods for citing a website with no author, using various citation styles.

1.APA Style (7th edition)

When using the APA citation style and you find a webpage with no identifiable author, begin your citation with the title of the webpage. Next, include the year in parentheses followed by a period. If an exact publication date is unavailable, use “n.d.” to indicate “no date.” Also, include the site name in italics followed by a period and the URL.

Example:

The benefits of yoga. (2019). LiveHappyMagazine. https://www.livehappymagazine.com/benefits-of-yoga/

2.MLA Style (8th edition)

For MLA citations, start with the title of the webpage in title case and quotation marks. If there’s no publication date available, use “n.d.” for “no date.” Indicate the site name in italics and provide the URL without “https://” at the beginning.

Example:

“The Benefits of Yoga.” LiveHappyMagazine, n.d., www.livehappymagazine.com/benefits-of-yoga/

3.Chicago Style (17th edition)

With Chicago Style citations, begin with the title of the webpage in headline-style capitalization and italics. Follow it by the publication date if available; if not, use “n.d.” Add “Accessed” followed by the full access date in parentheses and end your citation with a period. Complete your citation with the URL.

Example:

“The Benefits of Yoga,” n.d., Accessed August 20, 2021, www.livehappymagazine.com/benefits-of-yoga/

Each of these citation styles provides a credible way to cite a website with no author. It’s essential to be consistent in your citation style throughout your work. Remember, when in doubt, consult the official publication manual for the specific citation style you’re using.

In conclusion, websites without explicit authors can still be accurately referenced through these three methods. By applying the correct citation style and format, you will maintain academic and professional integrity while acknowledging essential sources.
