1. Develop self-awareness: Before you can learn to act serious, you must first become aware of your own emotions and actions. Pay close attention to how you behave in different situations and look for patterns or inconsistencies.

2. Observe others: Study the body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice of those around you who seem serious. Take note of subtleties such as how they listen, communicate, and react to different situations.

3. Maintain eye contact: Keeping steady eye contact when speaking with others shows confidence, trustworthiness, and seriousness.

4. Speak clearly and concisely: Clear communication is an essential part of acting serious. Articulate your thoughts simply while maintaining a steady pace and tone.

5. Choose your words carefully: Using sophisticated language can add credibility to your words and make you appear more serious.

6. Limit humor: While humor can be disarming, it can also undermine the seriousness of a conversation. Use it sparingly or not at all when aiming to appear serious.

7. Control your emotions: Train yourself to keep your emotions in check during conversations or meetings as losing emotional control can detract from your seriousness.

8. Be assertive, not aggressive: Stand up for yourself and your ideas while respecting others’ opinions. Assertive communication demonstrates thoughtfulness and conviction, contributing to a serious demeanor.

9. Be knowledgeable: Stay informed about the topics relevant to the conversation or situation you find yourself in. Demonstrating knowledge makes you appear more credible and serious.

10. Listen actively: Show that you are genuinely interested in what the other person is saying by giving them your full attention, nodding occasionally, and asking questions when appropriate.

11. Dress professionally: Your wardrobe plays a significant role in how others perceive your level of seriousness. Adapt your clothing style according to the environment or occasion.

12. Address people by their preferred titles: Using formal titles when addressing people can signal your respect and personal seriousness.

13. Avoid fidgeting or other nervous habits: These behaviors can make you appear more anxious or uncertain, detracting from your goal of acting serious.

14. Maintain a neutral facial expression: A stern or thoughtful facial expression can communicate seriousness to others, so avoid excessive smiling or exaggerated facial reactions in serious situations.

15. Practice regularly: Like any skill, acting serious requires consistent practice in various situations. Observe your progress over time and adjust your approach as needed to continue developing your ability to act serious.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
