Introduction

Corrugated metal is a versatile and durable building material used in various applications such as roofing, siding, and fencing. Cutting corrugated metal may seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and techniques, you can easily make precise cuts. In this article, we will discuss three simple ways to cut corrugated metal: using tin snips, a circular saw, or an angle grinder.

1. Tin Snips:

Tin snips are handheld tools that resemble scissors but are specifically designed for cutting metal sheets. They are ideal for smaller projects and can make quick, clean cuts in corrugated metal.

How to Cut Corrugated Metal Using Tin Snips:

– Mark the cutting line on the corrugated metal sheet using a straight edge and a permanent marker.

– Choose the appropriate type of tin snips (left-cutting, right-cutting, or straight-cutting) based on the direction of your cut.

– Begin cutting along the marked line by holding the tin snips firmly with both hands.

– Carefully maneuver the tin snips around any curves or corners in the cut.

– Smooth out any sharp edges using a file or sandpaper after completing the cut.

2. Circular Saw:

If you have larger projects that require cutting through multiple sheets of corrugated metal or making long, straight cuts, a circular saw equipped with a metal-cutting blade is an excellent choice.

How to Cut Corrugated Metal Using a Circular Saw:

– Secure the corrugated metal sheet on a sturdy workbench or sawhorses.

– Install a metal-cutting blade onto your circular saw.

– Mark the cutting line on the corrugated metal sheet using a straight edge and a permanent marker.

– Put on safety goggles and ear protection.

– Set the speed of your circular saw to its lowest setting.

– Carefully guide the saw along the marked cutting line, ensuring that the blade’s teeth only make contact with the metal peaks.

– Smooth out any rough edges using a file or sandpaper after completing the cut.

3. Angle Grinder:

An angle grinder is a powerful and versatile cutting tool that can also be used for cutting corrugated metal. It can make both straight and curved cuts and is suitable for larger projects or thicker metal sheets.

How to Cut Corrugated Metal Using an Angle Grinder:

– Secure the corrugated metal sheet on a sturdy workbench or sawhorses.

– Install a metal-cutting wheel onto your angle grinder.

– Mark the cutting line on the corrugated metal sheet using a straight edge and a permanent marker.

– Put on safety goggles, gloves, and ear protection.

– Carefully guide the angle grinder along the marked cutting line, making sure to follow the contours of the corrugations.

– Smooth out any rough edges using a file or sandpaper after completing the cut.

Conclusion

Cutting corrugated metal doesn’t have to be intimidating. With these three simple methods – tin snips, circular saw, and angle grinder – you can confidently make clean, accurate cuts and complete your project with ease. Just remember always to prioritize safety by wearing appropriate protective gear while working with these tools.
