Introduction:

Butternut squash is a versatile and delicious ingredient that can be enjoyed in a variety of dishes. One of the most popular methods for cooking butternut squash is roasting it, which brings out its natural sweetness and creates a tender texture that’s perfect for soups, salads, or as a side. In this article, we will explore three different ways to roast butternut squash to help you develop new and exciting flavors in your kitchen.

1. Classic Roasted Butternut Squash:

The classic way to roast butternut squash is simple and easy to accomplish.

– Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

– Peel the butternut squash, halve it lengthwise, and scoop out the seeds.

– Cut the squash into 1-inch cubes.

– Toss the cubes with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

– Arrange the cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 25-30 minutes or until tender and golden brown, turning them occasionally for even cooking.

2. Maple-Cinnamon Roasted Butternut Squash:

Add some extra flavor to your roasted butternut squash by combining maple syrup and cinnamon.

– Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

– Peel the butternut squash, halve it lengthwise, and scoop out the seeds.

– Cut the squash into 1-inch cubes.

– In a bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of melted butter or coconut oil, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of kosher salt.

– Pour the mixture over the cubed squash and toss to coat evenly.

– Arrange the cubes in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and roast for 25-30 minutes or until tender and caramelized, giving them a stir halfway through.

3. Garlic and Herb Roasted Butternut Squash:

This savory variation on roasted butternut squash is excellent as a side dish for your favorite proteins.

– Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

– Peel the butternut squash, halve it lengthwise, and scoop out the seeds.

– Cut the squash into 1-inch cubes.

– In a bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon of chopped fresh rosemary, 1 teaspoon of chopped fresh thyme leaves, and a pinch of kosher salt and black pepper.

– Toss the butternut squash cubes with the garlic-herb mixture until evenly coated.

– Spread the cubes out in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.

– Roast for 25-30 minutes or until tender and slightly crispy on the edges, turning occasionally for even browning.

Conclusion:

Roasting butternut squash is a simple and versatile technique that can take an ordinary ingredient to new heights in your cooking. By experimenting with different flavor profiles, like adding sweetness with maple syrup or incorporating savory herbs, you’ll find that this autumn favorite can be the star in any meal.
