2024 Lexus GX First Drive Review: Is It Better or Just Boxier?

The all-new 2024 Lexus GX has made its debut and we had the opportunity to take it for a spin. At first glance, Lexus has made notable changes to the exterior design, which now showcases sharper lines and a more aggressive, boxier silhouette. This is quite a shift away from previous generations that opted for smoother, more rounded edges.

One of the key highlights of this latest iteration is undoubtedly the revamped suspension system. Lexus has invested significantly in fine-tuning the GX’s ride quality, and it shows. The new adaptive variable suspension provides a buttery-smooth ride over various terrains and better handling around corners. This refinement gives drivers an increased sense of control and comfort.

Under the hood resides an updated powertrain offering more efficiency without compromising on power. Details on performance figures have not been fully disclosed yet; however, Lexus assures a balance between fuel economy and responsive acceleration. With more stringent emission standards on the horizon, this is a strategic move by Lexus to stay ahead of the curve.

The interior hasn’t been left untouched either. There is an evident upgrade in material quality and craftsmanship. Luxurious touches are present throughout, from stitched leather trims to ambient lighting that elevates in-cabin experience at night. The infotainment system gets a complete overhaul, featuring a larger touchscreen interface that is both intuitive and user-friendly.

Safety technologies have also taken a step forward in the 2024 Lexus GX with more driver-assist features becoming standard across all trims. This includes lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and an advanced pre-collision system that underscores Lexus’s commitment to safety.

While it’s evident that the ‘boxier’ look will be subjective to individual taste, it’s clear that Lexus has made concerted efforts to improve overall performance and luxury appeal. The 2024 Lexus GX feels like it’s setting a new benchmark in its class for what premium SUVs can offer – both in aesthetics and driving dynamics.

In summary, our first drive of the 2024 Lexus GX reveals that it’s not just better – it’s evolved into a more refined machine that addresses both form and function with equal aplomb. It offers up a compelling package for those seeking robust performance wrapped in luxurious chattels – a vehicle that’s as comfortable navigating urban landscapes as it is cruising down open highways or tackling rugged off-road trails.
