2024 Ford Mustang GT & EcoBoost First Drive Review

Spread the love

The 2024 Ford Mustang GT and EcoBoost models have hit the streets, and anticipation among muscle car enthusiasts is at an all-time high. As the latest entries in the venerable American muscle car saga, these two offerings from Ford aim to redefine driving performance and pleasure. We recently had an opportunity to test-drive both vehicles side by side and have captured our thoughts on these speeding machines.

Performance

Ford continues to push the boundaries with power-packed drivetrains for its iconic Mustang. The 2024 Mustang GT is equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 engine, producing a jaw-dropping 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. This robust engine roars with authority as it whizzes past fellow motorists.

On the other hand, the EcoBoost model flaunts an efficient yet powerful 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine generating an impressive 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. While it lacks the absolute potency of its GT sibling, the EcoBoost offers plenty of punch for a spirited drive.

Handling

Both cars benefit from improved suspension and steering systems compared to their predecessors, resulting in exceptional handling characteristics that inspire confidence around every twist and turn. The GT model in particular garnered praise for its accurate steering response and stable footing, making those tight corners feel like child’s play.

Fuel Efficiency

EcoBoost models clearly hold the upper hand in fuel efficiency, managing an EPA rating of 21 city/30 highway mpg while providing ample performance for most driving conditions. The more powerful GT achieves a slightly lower rating of 15 city/24 highway mpg, but few would expect outstanding efficiency from a V8-powered muscle car.

Technology & Infotainment

The 2024 Ford Mustang boasts an improved interior outfitted with Ford’s latest SYNC® 4A infotainment system comprising a customizable 12-inch touchscreen. This high-resolution display supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Ford’s navigation system along with other connectivity options. A 12-inch digital instrument cluster displays performance metrics, configurable to each driver’s preference.

Aesthetic & Design

Both the GT and EcoBoost models showcase Ford’s commitment to aggressive-yet-sophisticated design language. Sleek lines and sculpted curves speak to the power beneath the hood, while LED lighting enhances the car’s already formidable presence. Inside, ergonomic seats maximize comfort and provide ample lumbar support for those longer drives.

Safety Features

Safety remains a top priority with Ford’s suite of standard driver assistance technologies, including Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, and a rearview camera. Optional features such as adaptive cruise control and Enhanced Active Park Assist further add to the owner’s peace of mind.

Final Thoughts

The 2024 Mustang GT and EcoBoost models continue Ford’s legacy of exceptional muscle cars offering exhilarating drives and unforgettable experiences. Whether seeking raw power in the GT or efficiency and performance balance in the EcoBoost, fans of America’s favorite pony car will not be disappointed by either choice.
