2024 BMW i5 M60 Tested: The Fun Flagship

The 2024 BMW i5 M60 represents the perfect blend of luxury, innovation, and performance. As an enthusiast’s electric sedan, it builds on the formidable reputation of its i4 sibling but sets new benchmarks in the EV field.

From first glance, the i5 M60 demonstrates a crafted elegance with its sleek lines and signature BMW grille that’s been tuned for an electric future. It boasts a lengthened wheelbase that not only gives it a commanding road presence but also ensures improved interior space for both front and rear passengers.

Underneath the stunning exterior lies BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology. With dual electric motors, one on each axle, the i5 M60 has an all-wheel-drive capability and can achieve an impressive zero to 60 mph time of just 3.8 seconds. This is due to the combined output that exceeds 600 horsepower which, for an electric vehicle, is nothing short of remarkable.

But power isn’t its only forte; handling is where this car truly shines. The low center of gravity and lightweight construction help it to move with agility comparable to much smaller sports sedans. Add to this BMW’s Adaptive M suspension and Integral Active Steering, and you’ve got a car that offers fun and confidence in equal measure.

Drivers can select from various driving modes including a Sport mode which sharpens the performance further for spirited driving sessions. Moreover, regenerative braking can be adjusted via steering-wheel-mounted paddles, allowing for one-pedal driving experiences that are as engaging as they are efficient.

In terms of energy capability, the i5 M60 houses a sizable battery pack that should provide around 300 miles of range on a full charge. Fast charging capabilities mean that topping up the battery from 10% to 80% takes under 40 minutes at a high-power charging station.

Inside, luxury meets tech with BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment system taking center stage on the curved display panel. It integrates seamlessly with smartphones and offers natural voice command features. The materials used throughout are of high quality keeping sustainability in mind – another plus for environmentally conscious buyers.

Safety has not been compromised either; with plenty of active driver aids as standard including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, this is a vehicle designed to look after its occupants in every respect.

As the auto industry charges toward an electrified future, models like the i5 M60 demonstrate how an electric vehicle can still stir emotions and deliver driving excitement. It’s very much a flagship offering from BMW – loaded with advanced technology, zero-emissions powertrain without abandoning the familiar joys of driving. If this is indicative of where luxury EVs are heading, enthusiasts have ample reason to be exhilarated about what’s down the road.
