Introduction:

The 1991 Mitsubishi Diamante LS marked a milestone for the brand, showcasing cutting-edge technology and gadgets within its luxurious design. This high-tech sedan catered to tech-savvy buyers looking for style, performance, and innovation in one package. Let’s delve into the Diamante LS’s groundbreaking features and their impact on the automotive industry.

Performance and Engine:

Under the hood, the 1991 Diamante LS boasted a 3.0L V6 engine that delivered 202 horsepower and 198 lb-ft of torque. Coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission, this powerplant offered smooth acceleration and a comfortable cruising experience. With an EPA-rated fuel economy of 18 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on highways, it was competitive within its segment during its time.

Luxury Features:

A standout aspect of the Diamante LS was its pioneering gadgetry. Some notable luxury features included automatic climate control, power windows and mirrors, cruise control, headlamp washers, fog lamps, and a premium sound system. The car also came with keyless entry and power-adjustable driver’s seat to cater to individual preferences.

Safety Equipment:

Mitsubishi left no stone unturned when it came to safety features in the Diamante LS. Equipped with standard ABS brakes for improved braking control and stability, dual front airbags, three-point seatbelts for all passengers, and child safety locks on rear doors, the vehicle prioritized keeping passengers protected.

In-Car Electronics:

The most innovative feature present in the 1991 Diamante LS was its Electronic Control Suspension (ECS) system. ECS enabled drivers to switch between firm or soft suspension at the touch of a button while driving. This cutting-edge technology enhanced the overall driving experience by ensuring adequate suspension based on road conditions and driver preferences.

Interior and Exterior Design:

The Diamante LS’s sleek design included chrome accents, alloy wheels, and a spacious cabin. The interior offered premium materials like wood grain trim, leather upholstery, and plush carpeting to deliver a luxurious ambiance. The car’s roomy cabin provided ample legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers.

Final Thoughts:

Revisiting the 1991 Mitsubishi Diamante LS test reminds us of the manufacturer’s audacious move in infusing advanced technology into a then-contemporary sedan. The vehicle set the stage for future luxury cars to incorporate tech-savvy features that are now considered standard today. While it may lack the appeal of modern gadgetry, the Diamante LS represented a major leap forward for its time and remains an icon in automotive history.
